My laptop is a piece of crap, finally decided to buy a desktop this time as I was mostly using it at home anyway. After looking at several brands of PCs and several models, I'm thinking I should take a shot at assembling one myself, if only to see the possible configuration within my budget as compared to branded PCs. If possible I'd like to see your suggestions of a few possible configurations. My Budget is 40-50k.
1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: General use, lots of gaming, mostly online gaming (MMOs, not ones like WoW that have extremely high requirements, but I'd like to run 3D MMOs at high quality with high FPS). Some occasional movies, and a lot of music.
2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes, but I WOULD prefer intel processors to AMD ones, just that I've heard that AMD processors heat up easily, and my laptop currently has one and recently has been shutting down automatically due to over heating.
3. What is your MAX budget?
A: Max 50k, but I'd like it to be closer to 45k~ since I need to buy original windows 7 and MS Office too.
4. Planning to overclock?
A: Not really, no.
5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7 Home
6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: HDD is not important, even 200 GB would be fine.
7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: I'd like a 21 inch LCD monitor, probably at 1920×1080 resolution.
8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: Probably 3/10, I'm new to this, I have basic knowledge of all hardware, but I have no idea about what the current performers are, or their prices, and what parts would be compatible with each other, what parts wouldn't. First time assembling.
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: This will be done by an assembler, I'm just hoping to come up with some good configurations so that he can get the parts and assemble it ASAP. Hopefully I can learn from him and assemble my next PC myself.
10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: ASAP, as soon as I can decide a configuration and get the parts, probably within a few days.
11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: I'd like it to be somewhat future-proof, but its not too much of a priority, I may or may not upgrade it in the future, and I dont think its that important for me because I'm not into high-end gaming or HD movies or stuff like that. But I want it to be good enough that I wouldn't have much complaints for a few years.
12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: No, I need everything.
13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: New Delhi. Not open to buying from shops in other states, pretty sure everything should be available here anyway.
14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: I'd prefer an Intel processor, but I guess if theres a large price difference, AMD would be fine too.
Thanks
