About login session timeout

When I am logged in here, and I don't do any activity for nearly 10 minutes, my login session timeouts automatically & I need to login again.

How is this controlled ? By some client side scripting ?? Is there any way I can increase this timeout duration ??

And Gmail does not timeout so soon.

What is this login session expiring funda, could someone explain ??

Just check in "Remember me" option while logging in.

But also I wanted to know the programming aspect of it. That means how this is controlled and why different sites have different durations for timeout.

Time out sessions are included due to security reasons. I know a code that can control this timeout session, but can't post them. That will be against the forum rules. All I would like to say is it's better you use "Remember me" option and "Log-out" while leaving. That would be much safe.

Humm....I'm getting the point slowly. Suppose i closed browser without logging out of Gmail , so for how much time it stays logged in ?

It is session cookie which stored the session variables, by programming we can set the expiring time of session cookies.
