it is due to bad ratio of seeders and leechers.
first see the ratio and then start download.
And one more thing legal thing must be downloaded from anywhere but not torrent as it is free.

dude dont have to mention illegal as we all know wht we r n wht we do :D

btw use healthy torrents which have more seeders than leechers.
If possible use pvt trackers

In torrent the file is not stored in any server
the file is shared by (i.e seeded / uploaded by) seeder and you have to download at the same time

the function is
their are seeders and leechers

seeders - is who has file and he seed (i.e. upload the file)
leecher - who download the file at the time when seeder upload it

so you can only download that file when their is someone who seed it

if their is no seeder than you cannot download that file
or if leecher are more than seeder than download speed will be low

also if you start downloading and after 50-70% you file stops that means seeder has stopped seeding that file,
than you have to wait for the seeder to seed the file their is no other option

I didn't get your meaning. Be more clear.

And torrent downloads are not on any type of server. It is a type of P2P downloading in which only the connections are co-ordinated by a central server called tracker. And the tracker doesn't have any thing related to the download.

I had written a torrent guide for noobs sometime back.Lemme check If I can get hold of it and post for you.

edit:got it.its just a basic one,I will write an advanced one soon.

A newbies Guide to torrenting :p

Ok guys I have seen many people and some of my friends asking questions like "How do I download movies from net?' or even "Hey,I use limewire but almost 50% of the things I download has viruses/other malwares?" and I have a single answer-->****ing use torrents !.

Note:All of this article has been written by me(and not copy pasted).ALl the facts that I am posing are true to my knowledge but I can never be 100% sure.Comments regarding anything are most welcome.

Its gonna be a loong one so hold your seats and enjoy the ride.

What is bitTorent? How does it actually work?

Bittorrent is a p2p file sharing protocol introduced by Bram Cohen in July,2001.It was mainly designed to distribute/share large files such as full Linux distros, now hosting such large files on websites(http, ftp) wasn't a very efficient method as millions of people will be downloading it as soon as it is put up and the servers used to get clogged and people used to get nothing or everything incomplete(one of the way around was to host more popular files on multiple servers at the same time but it involved huge costs).Bittorrent works by allowing all the downloaders to connect to the main source as well as other downloaders like him.It breaks the large files into small chunks and as soon as you download a data chunk you start acting as a source of that chunk for other downloaders. When someone's download is complete then he becomes another full source and can upload if he wishes to.This puts a lot less load on original source and is highly efficient and people get way higher speeds than what they would've got from if the same file was downloaded by all the downloaders simultaneously.Bittorent accounts for more than 30% of all the traffic on net.
It is superior to kazaa\limewire et al because they only allows one to one connection unlike bottorent which allows simultaneous multiple connections.

Brah Cohen(1975-):He's an american programmer. He not only introduced bittorrent protocol but also coded the first program to use this protocol.Few people know that Cohen in fact has Asperger's syndrome, a condition on the mild end of the autism spectrum that gives him almost superhuman powers of concentration but can make it difficult for him to relate to other people(i.e socialising much)

Ok enough of theory now tell me how the fuc..err hell do I download using this superior protocol of yours?

Its as simple as it gets download .torrent files form net(more on this later),fire up your bittorrent client using it and behold your download has started.

Some terms and useful links:

1.Bittorent clients: These are the programs which lets you download data by using info from .torrent files. It basically make connections with other peers. There are a lot of different clients available for download(most are free).I have tried a lot of them and here are my recommendations:
1.For Windows:
-utorrent:light,small,and the best of the lot in my opinion.head over to

www.utorrent.com and get started.
-Bitcomet:it is yet another of my favourite. It has some cool features like
downloading data chunks such that you're able to play a file while it is being
downloaded(its complicated). Its good but not as good as utorrent.
-and the others like azureus, bitlord, and million more.
2.For Linux:
-Use wine+utorrent combination.utorrent is officially supported by wine.
-deluge:nice and easy.nothing much.
3.For Macs:
-Azureus is based on java so it works on all three platforms including mac OSX
-others include transmission et al.

2.Seeders:They are the peers having a full copy of the data and are now uploading it for others to download.

3.Leechers:They are the peers who are still downloading and haven't got a full copy yet.Of course they are uploading as well.

4.Peers:all the seeders and leechers combined are called peers.

5.Swarm:A collection of peers downloading\uploading same file.

6..torrent file:this is the file which contains basic info about the name, size of download,ip addresses of the peers, and some tracker info.It has all what is needed bu the clien to start downloading.

7.Tracker:
It co-ordinates connection amongst peers.Every torrent file is associated with one or more trackers.

8.Hit and run!:This is the running away of a peer after his download has been completed without uploading for others. This is one of the major threat to bittorent file sharing and is highly condemned by all.

9.Ratio:It is your upload/download ration.Private trackers keep record of this and you may get banned if you don't maintain a good enough ratio.

Where do I download these damn .torrent files?
There are many websites from where you can download torrent files. Some of the choicest are given below:

1.thepiratebay.org
2.torrentz.com(gives links to other sites\trackers)
3.mininova.org
4.bottorent.com
5.legaltorrents.com

all the above are open to public(or are public trackers) and maintaining a ratio is not at all required(but it is ethical to maintain a good ratio).
There are plenty of private trackers\sites too which only serves a close group of members and entry to such sites usually require invitation codes from existing mambers. They have the best maintained torrents and keep record of your ratio.

e.g.

1.demonoid.com :down for some time but hopefully will be back soon
2.oiNk.cd
3.torrentleech
and others.
