Which phone would you guys suggest around 10-14k which can be bought immediately, as in no flash sales and such. Other than Moto G4 please and also phones with great XDA Dev support is highly preferred.

Good Developer support for existing device you can find by no. of ROMs developed by different developers on XDA.
Snapdragon SoC mostly favorite among developer.
Company's Flagship devices always gets support, it's hard to tell about long term support.
For Samsung galaxy duos, lineage 14 is in work. (Check XDA)

Basically it's hard to find but worth to wait.

I think upcoming Nokia budget android device will get more developer support.
Keep eye that.

As far as I've seen, Xiaomi devices have good dev support, almost all Redmi and Mi devices have good footing in the development area.

I thought of Lenovo Z2 Plus, but all those negative reviews of the phone turning to ash, screen and SIM problems make me think Lenovo have cut corners way more than needed just to accommodate a SD820 chip on the phone.

Any suggestions on yesteryear flagships available around 15k?

Fellow Z2 plus user here and I am in a group with hundreds of them. Not one of them had any problems mentioned on negative reviews on Amazon!!

Redmi Note 4 is 5.5"
Hence not compact

The comparison is between Redmi 4 and Robin
I can easily get Robin for 7500 on eBay us
A friend will be coming
My dad doesn't want iPhone or else I could have bought him SE
There are very few compact smartphones left
Pixel,S7 all are out of my range currently even if I bring from US

Purely based on specs, the Rn4 is better. However it isn't a "compact phone" whereas the Robin is a much better size compared to RN4.

(Don't think about India vs China (+Pakistan) war)

You can replace gorilla glass with Tempered Glass protection (any local ₹60-₹100 will do)
You can also get Full screen covered Tempered Glass.
Reminder - Tempered Glass for curved displays not available yet. So full screen TG are good options.

Eventually normal Local Tempered Glass will Cover all area.

We are still talking about Android Marshmallow when Nougat was released an year ago and now Oreo is getting released in August.

Though Redmi Note 4 does not get regular updates it can be used with wide variety of custom ROMs.

But I still prefer Honor 6x @ 13k over Redmi Note 4 @ 12k.
Most preferable is Moto G5 Plus @ 17k
