Hello folks!

So long story short , a couple weeks ago some wires crossed in my building , I guess the neutral and phase wire and caused a voltage of 440v and it caused my mobo and speakers and iPod to fry.the electrician checked the ground and earthing and all was OK .I also know that it wasn't a surge cause I have a bpe 600va UPS which protects from surges , although it's not that good , it should have done something. So I am pretty sure the double voltage was the cause , I read in a couple forums that it's common in India but couldn't find any solution. At the moment I am considering either buying an APC back ups pro because it's a good model with good surge protection , however I am scared it might not do anything if the same double voltage strikes again.I am also considering Luminous zelio or sukam shiny , none of their websites or catalogue say anything about surge protection but I have heard they usually have a circuit breaker to cut the supply if voltages cross .I am very confused and stressed as what should I do , I want protection if ever the phase and neutral wires cross again giving me a double voltage of 440v and I also want a good backup time.Pure sine wave is preferred as my PSU is a seasonic s12ii 620 . please help me out and thanks.

Don't you have breakers at home? That should have cut the power immediately.
I don't think APC does Pure sine wave. Not sure which brand does. I have an APC Approximated Sine wave UPS and it works just fine.

Yup I do have them but I am guessing they take a while to cut off the supply and a few microseconds is all it takes to fry the PC apparently. Which apc model do U have and does it work fine with apfc PSU?

I have an APC Back Ups Pro (600VA). I don't recommend it. You should purchase a 1KVA model instead.

It worked fine, as long as you're not gaming on it.

If a surge comes, at least a normal APC UPS won't be able to protect. Surge, usually is so fast that nothing can stop it. I've been a victim of this.

I don't think it was a big surge usually there are fluctuations and sometimes the phase and neutral wire meet or neutral gets cut off , this causes double voltage of 440v which is a really big surge , yes I know that it's almost unstoppable but what is the maximum protection one can get?what kind of protection are you using after your accident?
