Errors in Win 10

Hi guys,

My cousin got a Win 10 laptop last week. We are facing few errors. The Windows version is Windows 10 Home Single Language, check this

We got this error yesterday afternoon, when Firefox with few tabs was opened. It all froze for few minutes and then it became normal

*oi68.tinypic.com/34gt3s9.jpg

Why is it saying drivers for Windows 8? And what's the meaning of "R" in Win 8(R)?

In the Windows update it is showing that the Windows will be updated to Windows 10 Home Single Language but it already has the same version preinstalled so why it is auto updating to Windows 10 Home Single Language? Windows update is auto downloading the files to update to Win 10 and is eating up our bandwidth.

What exactly is going on in here?

Regards

Hp Support guys told us to install these drivers

*ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73501-74000/sp73572.exe

&

Download NVIDIA, GeForce, Quadro, and Tesla Driver

When we asked why did you preinstall Win 8 drivers in a laptop with Win 10 they said sorry.

Should we install them? Nvidia drivers have not given errors till now. Is there any way to check whether the currently installed drivers are compatible with the installed version of windows or not? And how to stop Win 10 from downloading Win 10 installer file(s)?

1.Some drivers may have win 8 in their info field even if they can run on win 10(it usually means driver is a bit old & originally not designed for win 10,but with some modification was made to run on win 10)
2.from windows 10 onwards there will be no change in no. of windows, all updates/service packs will be shown as win 10 version xxxx.

Rule of thumb especially with fresh windows in a laptop is to update everything(windows & drivers from laptop manufacturer's site) after making backup/saving original drivers.Try what the HP support guy suggested. As for stopping win 10 update that is one of the thing many don't like about win 10,there is no way to completely stop win 10 automatic updates. For your case though it may be necessary so update win 10 also.

Thanks brother for replying. We will be updating the drivers and let Windows 10 download Windows 10, the build etc. is also the same+ the update date is 12-11-2015. Another thing dear we have not yet made the recovery discs. We will make them after updating the drivers and windows, is that fine? And updating only Display adapters is ok or do we need to update all of them in device manager?

We just updted the Intel and Nvidia drivers, it said that they are already up to date. HP's site is saying that we need to download these drivers-
HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support

It has listed all the drivers and not their updates.

Make recovery discs before updating too.Ideally recovery discs should be made before doing any major upgrade/update so if anything goes wrong one can at least revert back to a working windows state.if after upgrade/update everything runs smoothly for some time then make recovery discs again assuming they will be updated recovery discs(some laptops always make old/original recovery discs).

Yaar we just cancelled the update. Since we got that driver error so we were updating as suggested by you and HP guys.
a. Now should we download and make recovery discs or make them without the update? It has been a week and many Windows updates have been downloaded too. The Windows 10 to Windows 10 update that I mentioned earlier is 24% complete as of now, should we let it finish before making the discs? We can't make old/original recovery discs now :(
b. Should we update the other drivers like sound etc. from device manager?
c. What exactly is a system restore and should we create them before or after the update?

Sorry for so many questions, we are newbies in this. I hope you don't mind.

Usually 24% complete means downloading of updates is 24% complete.Make one set of recovery discs now & one after update is finished(downloaded & applied)Windows update should take care of everything without you doing update from device manager.Usually windows always creates a system restore point before applying any update so in case of update failure it can revert back to older state. You can create a system restore point manually before update too for extra precaution.

Can we create a system restore for the other drives, other than c, including the recovery drive also? And how much memory will system restore eat up?

Dear Bro There's no need for clean install. Moreover Windows is working fine, it's just that we are facing some update and driver issues. Any help regarding the system restore questions in the last reply.

system restore is for operating system restore not earlier drive state(e.g.some deleted file in my documents in C drive is not included in system restore point). For that one can use either windows inbuilt backup tool(search for it in windows) or 3rd party backup tools.Recovery drive is independent of system restore. One system restore point should not take more than 2-3gb.

Thanks dear. So, why is it showing that we can create system restore of all drives? If we take system restore of C drive only, that 2-3 gigs will be covered in the same drive right?

System restore for other drives includes saving shadow copies/previous versions of files in those drives.I am not sure how effectively it will work for new/1st time run on other drives.A simple solution would be to use system restore for C drive & for other drives simply copy paste the data into an external/usb hard disk. For C drive system restore point space will be taken up on C drive only.

Created a restore for C. Man the updates for windows were completed after 5 days, and then it showed a message on the update page, failed to install updates. When we clicked on retry, the updates have started from 0%. Why did it happen? We didn't do anything. Our net speed is way too low.

Usually after failed updates, retrying starts from 0% but whatever was downloaded should not be downloaded again(at least that is the case in win 7).If win updates are taking too long then either get a temporary fast connection or just update the drivers suggested by HP guy.

Well i did read your post.I was facing same issues lots of bluescreens and errors i clean installed windows 10 and no more issues.Regarding downloading of win 10 it is downloading nov update which is 3GB and your pc will keep downloading it until it is updated and it will cause data wastage since win 10 updater is not very reliable.

We activated 4g plan in our phone and using tethering we downloaded the file in about 4 hours. The installation took about an hour. After the laptop restarted the main screen was not showing any time or any other tab down below on the bottom left side of the screen. When we clicked on the start button nothing happened, so we turned it off from the main. Now the laptop seems slower than before. And the Intel etc drivers are not updated. I wonder what was in the update since the drivers are not updated. Will keep this post updated.

Update-
We have updated all of the devices software's from the device manager one by one. It "seems" to be fine now. No new software, game has been installed yet so can't say for sure. No more new Windows updates were there till yesterday. We created a restore point before the update. We are planning to create another one now and then make the recovery discs. Is that fine?

Another update-

In the action centre services which are not on/enabled shows a glowing blue sign like say bluetooth is not active but in the action centre it's icon will be glowing, say wifi is active then in the action centre both wifi's and airplane mode's icon will be glowing. This happens not all the times but most of the times. Why is this happening?
