My Y500 with dual GT 650m was overheating because of overclocking and the soft table cloth under it so I decided to create a laptop cooler using old cardboard Digit covers. The results are pretty good as now I am getting 82 degrees centigrade when maxing out AC IV Blackflag. Earlier the temps would go as high as 91 degrees centigrade.
I also decided to fit some LEDs because no laptop cooler is complete without LEDs.

Keyboard protector.......protects the keyboard from dust, water and dirty hands. It came free with the laptop.

Hey good job. But a thing you should consider is removing that keyboard cover of yours. It actually blocks the airflow from the surface of the laptop to the internals. The keyboard part is not airtight you know. If you don't believe me then try spilling a glass of coke on it :p

Try removing the cover once & see if it makes a difference :)

Nope no noticeable difference. In Unigine Heaven I reached 79 degrees without cover, then put cover, reached 80. Then I removed cover but it was stable at 80 without cover for a long time. Then again I put on the cover but temps did not go any higher for a long time again. I am estimating that removing the cover will decrease the temps by 0.5-1 degrees max when at full load for a very long time( say 2 hrs).

@OP how does it cool the laptop?

Check original post >.>
The results are awesome.
I think it will now allow me to OC a little more(maybe upto GT 755m SLI).
Any idea what is a good temp? 90-92 degrees?

lets try not to be weird this time :) , so i will go ahead and ask again, HOW exactly does the cardboard fit with LEDs cool the laptop? Lets assume that we already know it does, would want to know how.

oh I hadn't understood you first time.
You see the laptop was suffocating because of the soft table cloth and air was not able to reach the suction tubes(whatever it is called) which is located at the base of the laptop for both the GPUs. The passage now allows cool air to come to the suction tube.
Also most cheap laptop coolers do the same.

it raises the laptop a bit so air can be sucked in from the bottom, which was not possible earlier due to them getting blocked...:)

Loooooooooooooooooooool
your notebook is overheating because you have covered the keyboard. How do you expect it to get air inside properly.
the notebook takes in air from the keyboard and also the vents at the base enclosure.
