Vercuser B

Been There, Done That!!
Recently encountered the Vercuser B virus.. All the .exe files became corrupt and vlc/Km player/ tune-up utilities started showing "dll corrupt" error on trying to execute.. The virus wouldn't allow Norton Power Eraser to run or any other online virus removal software to run on the laptop..

My Norton Internet Security had stopped working and Microsoft Internet Security could not find the malware.. The laptop gradually started to slow down and then since i could find no details on Google regarding this virus i was forced to reinstall the windows and get the whole system back to factory settings and all the data in the c drive was lost..:cryeyesout:

I'm presently back at my home and will eventually have to go back to my hostel where almost all the laptops had got infected or are still infected..

If anyone can give me any information regarding how i can remove it then I would be highly grateful..:listen:

Thanks in advance..:)

after reinstalling there is no problem but then i dont know for how long.. Once i go back to hostel its gonna come back one way to another.. I cant reinstall windows after every one month..

Moreover once infected, you will not be able to run any of the online virus scans.. They stop responding after a few seconds..:(

either you were using some older norton version or running it with old/outdated definitions.no antivirus/security suite can help you if you do not update it at least once in 2-3 days now-a-days.my suggestion is either buy a good security suite(kaspersky, norton, bitdefender for ~500) or get latest good free ones like avast or avira & run with latest updates(1st update after install is always biggest ranging around 80-100mb but after that 4-5mb if update in 2-3 days).

OK buddy here are the simplest steps I can say
1. Reinstall OS
2. Run an Online Virus Scan
3. Install Avast Home Edition (Free One)
4. Don't use any Pendrives, External HDDs before scanning then and you are fine. :)

i have Norton Internet Security original and is fully updated.. It doesn't even detect the virus let alone process it even if it is there in a pendrive.. Only Microsoft Security Essential was able to detect it and remove it permanently..

I tried it on all the possible anti-virus i could find((kaspersky, norton, avast, avira) and none of them were able to detect the malware present in the pendrive..

Well I don't think that it was due to the new release but I guess that the Database wasn't working because of the Virus Effect.

I think that a simple Google Search would do it. Let me do that for you.
Vercurser Search

I have already seen most of these.. Most of them are for Vercuser.A removal methods and the rest dont specify the correct method..:(

Buddy to put it simply there is no 100% sure method but the best method is always to do a Clean reinstall of Windows and then scan the whole PC for virus and others using online tools because they are updated and you don't have to worry that a new virus won't get caught. :)

@Shashank Joshi: Try bitdefender 2013 (trial version) to eradicate the issue..if it really solves the problem then buy it too...
but don't forget to update its signature database before scanning

Thanks for the advice.. Will have to wait till i go back to hostel so that i can find the virus on someone's laptop and then try it with different anti-virus..
