Origin Game Install Issue

Guys, I can't get past the DRM bullshit once again... Its been 1 hour and all I managed was a 0% download. I'm so angry I just smashed my Need for Speed: the run's box on the floor!!!

One of the DVD's (Disc No. 1) is in my drive but Origin is not using it to install the game. I have an internet connection. All these guys said was "Internet Connection required for Product activation"... They didn't say "internet required to install the whole freaking game"!

And my internet is not too slow. I use FB, Mail, etc. on it with no big problems. See the screenshot below to get an idea what I've been seeing the last 1 hour:

*img266.imageshack.us/img266/6417/nfstherunnotinstalling.jpg

Its using my weak internet to install the game, then why did I purchase the 2 DVD's??

I want to sue EA or Flipkart or Redwood interactive, or whoever the F*** is responsible for this f****** bullshit!! I feel cheated and now, its about 1.5 hours, my eyes are burning and approx 80 MB downloaded out of 15,839 MB. I'm waiting for it to use the DVD but it did not so far. Why can't they clarify this before that whole game will come from internet only and there's no choice?

I've searched the internet and I can't even get one method telling me how to install it from DVD's! In steam it was easy, we just had to suffix "-install D:". In Origin, what should I do guys? Down with EA and their cheapa** stuff!

Post on their forums. If there is a way for it to be installed with DVDs, you will get a reply there. Or contact Origin Support. There is no way you will ever get to play the game if it downloads on your connection. Hope you find a solution :)

^^ thanks - edited the link on my post. Now all of this would be fruitful if OP finds a solution from there.

If you get redirected to yahoo hosting, your PC must be infected or you have bills to pay :)

Here is the solution from the link.

The game installs two different Ways..

If you have the Disc you can install from them, but what happens is it turns Origin on and instead of pulling the download files from Origin server it pulls it from your Disc.

the 2nd way is if you do not have the disc it will pull the files from the server..

So if you do not have a good internet connection do not worry, as long as you have the Discs it will only take like a half hour..

Solution from help.ea.com, in your case download speed is slow.

Even though the Origin client displays that it's "downloading," it's actually pulling the data off the disk and not from the Origin content delivery network.

This is evidenced by the super-quick "download" speeds that are displayed, when compared to your normal download rate.

In any case - it'll finish quicker than you think (since it was installing from the media,) and you'll be fragging in no time!

Thanks for waiting!

This may be useful src

I just got off the phone with EA customer support. After convincing the rep that there was no way my install was "expanding files" at 500 kb/s, he took a look at my activation key, after I gave it to him. He informed me that my activation code had been picked up as a digital download order, rather than a DVD order. This, apparently, directs Origin on what to do - which in this case was do a full 11gb download. He said he could give me another key that would apply as a DVD purchase instead, and allow a much faster install speed.

He provided me another key within minutes, and now I just installed the game in 25 minutes flat as a result. I urge you to call and get this resolved if you don't feel like waiting 15 hours for a download. I only waited about 30-35 minutes in the queue.

Thank you guys. That Battlefield link proved to be useful... Many guys on that page were insisting that we should install from the disk. A special thanks to topgear. Thanks buddy. :) Although, some links got me to yahoo's hosting or something, but then I copied and pasted the latest link.

Yesterday, I tried to install from the "setup.exe" from the disc 1, and it was still downloading from the net. I paused it, exited Origin completely from the tray and tried once again, and finally... the setup started reading from the DVD. It started giving speeds of 5.5 MB/ sec and higher, and also, the DVD was spinning. It seems Origin had to download some "specific content" as mandatory, before starting to use the DVD.

The game has Good graphics and I've done one level uptil now, not reached Las Vegas till now. Using BMW M3 GTS (black) for now. I think fps is somewhat low on my system, around 23-25 fps or so, but mine is just a midrange i5 laptop, so its expected. I'm seeing how NFS is trying new concepts: Earlier the sandbox Anti police concept (Most Wanted) and now, intercity tournament racing. Innovative!

Guys, before the topic is closed, I have some final queries: What kind of DRM does the original/ older NFS Most Wanted (2005) have? What about other versions of NFS like Carbon/ Most Wanted 2012?? Does anyone remember their installation?

@Samarth 619 Once installed, origin will allow you to play with out longing in (no internet) ?

I think NFS Most Wanted (2005) need to insert CD for DRM checking.

Yes. Now, Origin does not need internet to work, but it says that the "internet content/ features are disabled in the game" or something like that. Actually, the 3 cars at the end (two similar muscle cars & one exotic/ sportscar) are accessible for the story mode, only if the internet is on and connected.

But yes, "The Run" now "runs" properly even without internet access. :D

I think I should get myself the NFS:MW (2005) too. Will play it tension free without DRM.
I played it fully on a friend's age-old computer years ago, and will play again on my fast lappy.

^^ if you don't wish to insert the CD/DVd everytime you want to play MW or Carbon justuse some no CD Crack ! if you own a legit copy of the game it's perfectly fine to use such crack - I used to play NFSUG2 on linux using this method ;-)

Still its redirecting. It'l only work for 1st time, i guess.

NFS MW (2005) doesn't have DRM stuffs.

fixed now don't know why every time I post/edit the link it's parsed as a URL unlike anirbandd's post - anyway, fixed it for once and for all now !

Slightly off-topic, but I like Gamersgate and GoG's way - they let you download the install file, which you can transfer to any PC. Steam is also OK as you can just copy the downloaded folder to another PC and Steam will do its thing without much trouble.

Gamestop Impulse and Origin, they really need to improve in this area. I downloaded the freaking 18GB of BF3 (+10GB for expansions), and where does that leave me? I specifically checked the option to save the installer. But hey, the installer is not there! Any ideas on how to transfer Origin games from one PC to another in this age of 15-25GB games?

these worked !

In the Origin settings (after you've installed Origin), you can specify where downloaded games are placed. Simply create a folder on your storage driver and point your games there. Start the download of all your games and then pause the downloads. Copy your existing install to the new location and start the download again. IIRC, Origin will recognize the files you copied over and just add the last couple of files you need. I'm quite sure this worked for me.

Alternatively, if everything goes wrong and it installs to your SSD, you can use the Steam Mover (you can find it in Sean's thread, I believe) to move the game after installing. In fact, you can use Steam Mover to move any system or game files. It works by creating a form of shortcut so Windows thinks it's accessing for example C:\Program Files\Origin\Origin Games, but in reality it's being redirected to D:\Origin Games. Steam Mover is a genius little tool, learn to use it and it'll benefit you greatly.

Move your Battlefield 3 game files to your SSD and make a Symbolic Link (or NTFS Junction) to link to it's new location.
For example, I've set Origin's Game Download directory to 'F:\Origin Games'. I moved 'Battlefield 3' to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlefield 3' (that's my SSD) and made a Symbolic Link for Origin, plus anything else that checks, to be redirected to the SSD.

I will try these as soon as I need to move the game. Thanks a ton for taking the time to post this and sorry for being lazy and not doing it myself :)

Does Origin support Verified by Visa/MasterCard Secure? I want to use my VISA debit card but it will only work if Origin supports the 3D Secure feature where it asks for my online PIN. I have a feeling that it doesn't support it, but if someone knows for sure, please let me know. Google didn't help :(
