I have to buy a laptop for my friend.
So here is the questionnaire:

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
35-45k(+/- 1-2k)

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
a. Netbook; 10” screen or less
b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen
c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
13"-14", 14" is the most preferable.Avoid 15" please, a light weight laptop is needed.

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like:Sony, Dell
b. Dislike:No as such, but he don't want to go for Asus and Acer

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Watching movies and internet surfing.

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
If could get Full HD then it would be great

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)
He want a light weight laptop, that is the main thing.
Gaming will be of low end which the normal Intel 3000 can support so that is not a thing which should bother, it can be avoided also.
Can purchase it online as well as from local store, so that thing is not a matter of concern.
I have shortlisted Inspiron 14r for him and also Sony VIAO E Series SVE14116GNB
He liked Inspiron 14Z, but I said no because the config is very low(2nd gen i3 1.4Ghz) and it costs 45k
It is need to be purchased in a couple of days only.
If we can get a Ultrabook in this budget then it would be really nice.

All the suggestions are welcomed.

Chuck that Vaio, illogically expensive. I'd bet this- Probook 4430s. And its without OS. Just buy a Windows basic (if its included in win 8 upgrade offer, otherwise HP). This way you save extra bucks by not opting for the win 7 professional, which comes normally with probooks.

Yes, here it is: Vaio svt13113en, just that your friend agrees on i3. But it won't bother him use-wise. Also, do check out this model's build quality before buying. I remember I heard something about model, so do cross check.

Why should I pick that sony one, rather Sony VIAO E Series SVE14116GNB is a better option.
And I like envy too but its HP and we all know its prone to heating issues, which will be reflected after few months of usage.

11" will be too small, wanna opt for 13.3" or 14"

He don't wanna go for that as a mutual friend of ours has bough a probook and he is having heating issues.

Well, I have used first gen based probook for long and 2nd gen for a limited time, and from my experience, I do agree that first gen had lots of problems, but 2nd gen didn't had any.

There are issues in my friend's latest probook so its better we avoid it.

both 'Vaio svt13113en' & 'HP ENVY 4-1002TU' that are under 45K are with 2nd gen i3..
Infact, the configuration is exactly same..
the few differences:
----------------------Vaio---------HP
1. SSD---------------32GB--------Not there
2. VGA Port---------Available------Not there
3. Front Camera------HD/2MP-----VGA/0.3MP
4. Screen-------------13.3"----------14"
5. Weight-------------1.6kg------ 1.75kg
6. Beats audio-------Not there-----available (not that great effects)

im also bit confused in the both these options :)
