hi i am thinking of buying a new harddisk. i am thinking of buying a 1 tb hdd, but i have some doubts-

1. the price of 1tb hdd is around 3800-4500(segate-wd). 500gb hdd are available for
Rs 2500. so my question is are 1tb hdd prices about to drop in future(i mean in the next 3-4 months)???i am willing to wait if that is the case.

2. i have read in the forum that terabyte hdd's are not reliable. the failure rate is high in segate and the wd green hdd is of 5400 rpm so that is sacrifice on performance. wd black is too costly.

3. is there any new thing coming up in the future(i mean in the next 3-4 months)??
a new product or new technology which would be better or because of which prices of hdd will drop??

thank u.

Prices may fall but don't expect like 500-700 at a time.
Expect 5-100 in a span of 3-4 months.

I don't know about fault in a particual company.
I had one 1TB WD and one 500GB Maxtor(Seagate)
WD crashed, Maxtor started having problem like slow read/write.
HDDs are never reliable, they never were.
At least I don't believe any of them now.

SSD (Solid State Drive) is already here and commercially available. But, its price is not that cheap that it can force "Platter" based HDDs so soon. Expect another 8-12 months to get SSDs available in all major brands.

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
Price fall is inevitable- but not predictable. If you can wait- wait.
When it comes to storage space, people will buy it if its the need for the hour. If its not need of an hour, why buy it? If it is not the need of the hour, why do you need so much space? But if it is need of the hour, as far as present goes- why think so much? Yesterday 160GB used to cost 4k, today you get 1TB- fact of life.

Blues don't have 1TB i think. You can wait for the Caviar Blacks to drop. They are way too expensive now! I have also noticed in case of HDD's "Bigger they are, the harder they fall."!!!

The price will perpetually keep falling and then there’ll be another product to replace this one. The cycle continues. You just need to find a time when the per MB cost to be sweet. Right now, for 1TB, it is. So, yeah. I’m looking at the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB HDD myself.

Waiting for prices to fall, is boring. Waiting for the rain to stop. HDD prices are reasonable as of now. Not on a high like DDR2. Go ahead, get what you want.

Now to think of it..I am also out of HDD space. Which is a good HDD. I want a 1 TB. Are 2 TB ones also available. I am not interested in those 'super fast' ones, I do not think it makes that much difference. Which would be a good one.
