Hi.
I've had a mail account in Yahoo! since past 5-6 years that I logged onto almost everyday.
I used to think that Yahoo! Mail was better than Hotmail.
But last month, I experienced something that really shattered that belief.
In addition, it completely emptied my account of everything including contacts, mails & folders.
What happenned was that when I logged onto my email account, I got signed in but instead of showing my Inbox, I was shown an error page with "
Error Code 1" saying that they had encountered an error and u (meaning I) should try some of the steps to resolve it. I did whatever was suggested but still was unable to open my mailbox.
So, I reported the error to the Yahoo! team.
Next day, when I again tried to open the mail, I was shown the same page but with "
Error Code 2" this time. I reported that error too.
3-4 days later, a reply came from the Yahoo! Customer Support saying that the problem had been solved & u can now open u'r mailbox.
I tried & it was working fine now. The problem had been solved. Right??
Wrong!!!
In the process of fixing my account, they deleted all my mails, custom folders, filters & even address book.
When I contacted them regarding the matter, this is what they had to say (I'm posting my entire mail).

It would be better if u read the following from the very bottom of the post. Some of the following contain my comments for better understanding.

This is their very lame  second response to my reply to their first response.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo! India Customer Care.

Your account has been closed due to inactivity (//It is not. It never was dormant//). "Dormant" accounts are de-activated if they have not been logged into for four months, regardless of whether or not email has been received in the account during that time.

You can re-enable your account, but without any of the info that was stored in it (//Read my previous comment//). To re-enable the account and start fresh, return to the Yahoo! Mail Sign-in page and log in with your ID and password.

*mail.yahoo.com/?.intl=in

Once you log in, please click on the "Reactivate Yahoo! Mail" link at the bottom of the page.

Note: Once an account has been de-activated, we cannot retrieve any of the information that was formerly stored in it.

Hi.
Thanks for your reply.
I am astonished to know that the all the stored mails get deleted during "dormancy" (//The account was never dormant. If accessing your account daily makes it dormant then the Yahoo! people are the most foolish people I've ever seen//).
If it had been due to my mistake, then it would have been on me & I wouldn't have contacted you.
But since the problem happenned from your side, it should have been u'r responsibility to make sure that the mails were kept safe during dormancy period. If that was not possible, u should have told me before resetting my account when the problem occurred.
And since my mails got deleted from your end, it should be u'r repsonsibility to retrieve them.
But after reading your mail, it seems that u'r not even trying to help and don't even feel sorry or accept u'r mistake.
All your trying to do is just seek a way to sell me an upgraded product instead of solving my problem.
I'm starting to feel that whether this "dormancy" of my account was really a problem or a trick from your side to try & sell me an upgraded product.
I just don't know what else to say.
I feel cheated by the way u guys acted.
I can't even imagine how many people face the same problem & get the same "bullshit" responce from u'r side.
This response of yours just dropped the credibility of u'r mail service down to zero in my eyes.

Gaurav

Hi. About 1-2 weeks ago, I was facing a problem of "Error Codes 1 & 2". Later, the problem was fixed from your side.
But today, I noticed that all my mails & custom folders (and the mails in them) I had created are gone. They may have been deleted from your side when the problem was fixed but I didn't notice the problem then. But today I did. I know I didn't delete them. I think the mistake happened from your side.
The mails in custom folders (******, *****, Gaurav, etc) are very important.
Kindly look into it & please try to retrieve them all, atleast from "Gaurav" folder.
