Boot into Media center and then try to format XP SP2 partition! ;)

If it doesnt work, then u can use Partition magic and can format it, it may ask to schedule the task at next reboot, simply accept it :)

Hey Freezer,

First check which partition is active. If it is the XP SP2's partition, formatting the drive will corrupt the boot loader. You have to insert Media centre CD, go to Recovery console and run fixboot and fixmbr. Then you can remove WIN XP SP2.

*support.microsoft.com/kb/314058 - this link has a doc that might help you reset MBR and boot partition.
