Right off the assembly line
I recently discovered that I am not able to boot my computer in Safe Mode. I am able to start the machine and press F8. It does bring me to the Safe Mode screen with all the various choices and I select "Safe Mode". It goes to the safe mode screen and loads all the drivers ending with "mup" and then brings me to a WinXP logon screen to give me a choice of either logging in as Administrator or my User (which does have admin privileges). When I select either one, the computer just reboots in normal mode. I have also tried to use the msconfig method to boot into safe mode but all that results in doing is cycling me through reboots. I end up having to boot using a previous last known good configuration from the safe mode screen to stop the recycling when using the msconfig method. I would just like to use my Norton Antivirus program in Safe Mode to scan my system which I tend to do from time to time just to make sure I do not have any nasty stuff on my computer. At present, I am unable to do this. I do not suspect any malware/spyware but I rather suspect it is a registry problem moreso. Can anyone help me in narrowing down the possibilities of what may be causing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
