Xp and vista not detectin on lan

In my college LAN, there seems to be a problem between xp and vista. The thing is, pcs running xp cannot detect most of vista computers, but detect all xp user dsektops and vice versa..

Is this a flaw with windows? or how to get about it?

it is not a flaw as i know.u still can connect them.
first of all turn off all firewalls(eg mcaffe)
make sure you have same workgroup name on both comps
then try connecting.
