Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, this is for you.

Wubi is Safe

It does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader.

Wubi is Simple

Just run the installer, no need to burn a CD.

Wubi is Discrete

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and If you do not like, you can simply uninstall it.

Wubi is Free

Wubi (like Ubuntu) is free as in beer and as in freedom. You will get this part later on, the important thing now is that it cost absolutely nothing, it is our gift to you...

Wubi is easy but I wouldn't suggest it as it is quite slow when you do activities including read and write on the hardisk as all the data is written into a virtual disk and not a separate partition on the hardisk.

yeah but then its safest for those who dont know nothing about linux or scared of.\

and the trick to move it to a separate partition is also provided in that site, if the user likes he can make it to a permanent partition

It is something like a single click virtual machine.
virtual machine runs inside an OS.

While this thing runs alone and yeah a degree of virtualization is there in case of fooling ubuntu to consider a folder as drive.

So the performance is far better than virtual machine, and at anytime u can make it to an actual physical partition in case u like to hav it permanently.

Sounds cool. Will be a great help for noobs and people who are worried on partition table mess up issues.

What wubi does is is creates a file on your existing partition, if you look from windows explorer it will just appear as a file. This file is emulated to appear as a hardrive partition to ubuntu. So, it doesn't hamper your windows install in anyways.

However, I must say that the wubi installer uses an alternate version of ubuntu which sometimes doesn't give you all the functionality on a full fledged install but yes, it's certainly for a temperoray tryout.

Warning: when you install, please don't use the username 'admin'
