OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version are meant to be sold by System Manufacturers. (like DELL/HP/etc).

They Activate and Work only on one PC (i.e. if you upgrade your mobo, you need to buy a new copy)

The Package is not meant to be sold separately, But it IS available. It just contains a CD, CD-KEY (COA Sticker) and a mini-manual (which usually advises you to contact your OEM for everything)

The Retail Version comes in a Box, It can be installed on 2 Hardware Upgrades (i.e. 1 Current PC + 2 New PCs you buy over time)

Laptops obviously come with OEM Version, You cannot activate it on another PC.. It is Locked to your current hardware.

You can call Microsoft Customer Care, Lie to them and get it activate over Phone , But thats Illegal.

how shall i get my modem driver (dialup) up and running even when it had loads of driver problem with XP... ???
i will be doomed then .. no internet... BREAK EVERYTHING !!

then isnt it the windows/Ms changed the way we interact with a pc ??
i think vista is a os which is designed for next gen devices in mind..

and yes its buggy... but was xp stable at the first or after SP1??

can anyone say SP2 xp pro sucks??

i am all one Ms side..
more over i cant even know which linux distro is best ??

yes it free .. but is it a replacement for windows ??

no way it can be ... may be one day .. but that day MS will be way ahead of others..

XP/Vista rocks as far as i concern...

its my opinion...

^I too find connecting to net a problem in the internet.
Linux doesn't properly support Internal(Win) modems.
Linux without net access is a daunting task to achieve.
Hope the Open source community comes with some generic driver for internal modems.

^^Guys I dunno about dial-up connections but broadband works out of box......no drivers nothing just plug in your router.

Finally I have 2mbps speeds.

internal modems are not well supported as it is made for windows.but anyway some chipsets are supported.wireless support also is not up to the mark.but that all blames shud go to the manufacturers to not open up or providing drivers.vista users too face this.so now win users too know what it will be when ur device is not supported.
