Windows BSOD error on boot on fresh Windows

I purchased a brand new Western Digital WD5000AAKX 500 GB SATA HDD with 6 Gb/s transfer rate.
I have connected it to an old system:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ processor
1 GB DDR (512 MB x 2) RAM
MSI Neo2-FX motherboard (MS-7025 Non-Platinum)
MSI FX5200-T128 AGP Card
DELL ST2220L 22" monitor
Samsung 80 GB IDE 7200 RPM HDD
Sony Combo Drive
Sony DVD-RW Drive
Sony Floppy Drive
Microsoft Keyboard PS/2
Logitech Basic Optical Mouse PS/2
iBall LPE223-400 SMPS

I installed Windows XP Pro 32-bit OEM on it.
The problem is, a BSOD is shown during bootup before the "Welcome/user" screen.
But Windows boots up in Safe mode without any problem.

I tried installing Windows 7 on it but it showed an "Machine Check Exception" BSOD.

My old Samsung 80 GB IDE 7200 RPM HDD is running fine with the current Windows XP installation already on it without any errors.

I have tried disconnecting the old HDD and running only the new one, but still facing the problem.

Is my brand new HDD faulty or is there some other problem?

Kindly help.

No, I am not overclocking.

Besides, my old 80 GB IDE HDD is booting up without any problems.

And the new SATA HDD boots up easily in Windows "Safe Mode".

BTW, my motherboard supports SATA transfer rate upto 150 MB/s only.

Could that be the problem?

If yes, is there a way to rectify the same?

Ok, I found the problem.
I disconnected all the optional drives (HDD, ODD) and tried booting and voila!!!!, Windows finally managed to boot.
Then I connected each of the peripheral and finally isolated the problem.

It seems that whenever I connected my Sony Combo drive, the Windows on new SATA HDD didn't work.
Disconnecting the Combo drive has solved the problem.
I have now connected all the peripherals, except combo drive, and the Windows is still booting/working fine.

I hope the problem doesn't arise again with any other drive.

But strangely, the problem does not occur on old IDE HDD.
Any guesses as to why?

go to bios and check what is set for the HDD. if its Native IDE (or maybe it was native sata. need to check) it'll boot up fine but its AHCI then you may get this BSOD. happens in my PC too. set to Native IDE for now.

Ok, I'll check that.
But I still don't understand how is the new SATA HDD booting easily in "Safe Mode" but not in normal mode with the existing BIOS settings?

Is this a IDE combo drive ?? if yes then set the jumper to slave mode and connect the sata HDD. Don't connect the IDE HDD now and see if this works.

BTW, how many IDE ports are there on the mobo and you are using a single IDE cable or two separate UDE cables to connect the IDE HDD and combo drive ?
