I am personally a person who likes gaming a lot but is now stuck in a dilemma. I tried Windows 8 on the new laptop we bought and immediately fell in love with the interface. Now I heard a lot of guys say that Windows 8 ain't good for gaming. I am a person who plays the latest games but old games too. I am a CoD fan too! I play CoD4 a lot and lo other latest games. Will old games such as CoD4 and older games function properly on Windows 8? Because if I hit upon a game old or new I get it ASAP! Opinions please?! Also, when if I get Windows 8, should I go for Windows 8.1? My rig :-

Ram - Corsair Vengeance 4GBx2 DDR3 1600FSB

No problem in Windows 8. For old games, you just need to change compatibility settings of the game launcher if they're posing any problem. Usually, we change the compatibility settings to match Windows XP Service Pack 2. Doing that is very easy (Game Launcher/Shortcut-->>Right Click-->>Properties-->>Compatibility-->>Run this program in compatibility mode for-->> Windows XP Service Pack 2). Windows 8 has some problems but its related to drivers since many people's system were built before Windows 8 but yours looks a fairly modern system so you should have no problems.

If you are into Multi Player gaming, then stay with Windows 7. Windows 8 has DPC latency issues.
It'll cause audio stutters, frame drops.

I have just moved to Windows 7 from Win 8 for BF3 & saw immediate improvement. Game does not experience frame drops or audio problems (sound would go off in game).

I play CoD for multiplayer only guys! Forgot to mention that. I tried MW3 multiplayer in the new laptop and it worked fine. So, for multiplayer Windows 8 ain't good?

Personally, I prefer Windows 7 simply because it has been out there & developers have got used to its code, bugs, etc. whereas Windows 8 is a new operating system & it will take a while to establish itself a presence in the market. So, if there were a problem with the OS then solutions would be readily available because of the large community support that 7 has gathered over the years. If I were you, I would wait for atleast a year before upgrading to 8.

@theterminator, you are right. But the thing is that I won't be playing old games a lot. I will play new games the most and all these new games do support windows 8 and have their bug fixes. But what I am asking is whether it is stable and can handle gaming properly and whether the old games will work. Another thing is that windows 8 functions just like windows 7 except for other cool new features, any bug can be fixed just the way it would have in windows 7. Am I right?

Windows 8 is fine for pretty much everything except for the fact that it can be really painful to get easy things done in it.

The usability factor has decreased. Windows 7 was the masterpiece.

Seems bright to me . :p haha

its inevitable, had MS didn't do something drastic , we wudve said ,'Oh! MS doesnt innovate & all that'. While i do hate win8 to the guts (thts y i havnt upgraded), it does seem to me that MS will improve upon their current performance :).

Windows 8 has no issues playing any of my games so far.. I am a regular BF3 and LOL player (Both belongs to different era and graphics set, ofcourse the genres).

Guys, I'm seriously screwed! The thing is I'm into editing and now I hit upon Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro (used Corel Draw before of course). But both these softwares don't work on a 32-bit OS and I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Should I buy Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8? And btw, I will be playing old and new games (that doesn't change). Also, just inform me if CoD4 multiplayer works fine (with xFire) on Windows 8? Plzz guys, help me. I literally feel miserable not being able to use those softwares for editing mainly because I have used a lot of Premiere Pro in my school for a competition and I need it badly.
