Windows 7 doesnt boot after upgrading RAM - Plz Help

Hi,

I use a PC with following config:

Operating System : MS Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz
RAM : ZION 1.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz (5-5-5-18)
Motherboard :Intel Corporation DG31PR (J3E1)
Graphics : SyncMaster (1280x720@60Hz)
1024MB GeForce 9500 GT (XFX Pine Group)
Hard Drives : 156GB Seagate (SATA)

Today I bought a new RAM module - ZION 2.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz (PC800)

When I boot my PC, Intel Boot Splash screen appears, and windows starts loading...
After few seconds of bootup animation of win7 , my PC automatically reboots. :-(

After reboot, it asks for "Startup Repair" or "Normal Boot"

I chooose Startup Repair - repairs starts but ends up with a BSOD - telling that "BIOS is not ACPI compatible" :-(

Now whats that mean ??? I am using this PC for 3 yrs with no issues.. :x

I also tried with changing the slots for the RAM module...nothing happen !! :-(

But if I use only the 2GB RAM or the 1GB, windows works fine...but working with both of them...pc wont boot.

Now, is this a RAM issue or my Win 7 issue....

FYI...my MoBo supports upto 4 GB of RAM

Plz help to solve my prob...

sometimes rams from different manufacturers fail to work together; it may be due to the difference in frequency, timing etc..Its highly recommended to go for the same brand for ram upgrades.

Thnx ajai5777 for the suggestion...

But FYI...I hv bought the RAM from same manufacture i.e. ZION

One is 1GB PC800 and another is 2GB PC800...

But they don't when worked together.

Currently I m using only the 2GB module....

Pls Help !!!

Bu some reason both the rams are not working together, you better get another 2GB Ram and sell the 1GB one

WoW..........

Sell my 1GB RAM... !!!

Can this be a Windows 7 issue....

I guess , its failing in the MEMTEST while booting...

2GB and 1GB are working fine, when placed in the Dimm1 alone
But not working when placed together...

Pls Help...

(5-5-5-18) & (6-6-6-18) :- These two seems to be incompatible. You should sell your 1GB as suggested & get another equivalent 2GB stick.

Else use the 2GB alone. Atleast you'll get a better performance.

In addition to the possibility of the two chips being incompatible, there is also a chance that the second memory slot on the motherboard may be faulty. Try to insert the 2 GB RAM in the second slot and no ram in the first slot and see if it boots... If it boots, you can rule out this problem and purchase a second RAM which will be compatible with the new one.

Thanks for the advice Arun.

I have chked with all kind of combination, with the RAM's and the Slots...but everything is in vain.

I tried to boot the PC from Win7 DVD...after loading the initial files(drivers) ... it gave a BSOD..."BIOS is not fully ACPI Compliant"

Kind a prob in POWER or the Win 7 Sys Drivers... !!! :-(

Those rams can work together.

You mounted them on alternate slots right..?

I have only 2 slots, and I have placed them side-by-side in slots.

Can anyone pls tell why that BSOD is appearing. !!??? - "BIOS is not ACPI compatible"

When this kind of Issue occurs....

I have tried Ubuntu Live DVD 10.0 and its worked fine with both the RAM's are onboard.
Only diff is, it shows 2.5GB of RAM but there was 1+2Gb of RAM.

Help me to resolve that BSOD

Human Spambot
Try testing both the RAMs on another DDR-2 mobo. If it works fine then ther is some motherboard problem. Try updating the BIOS.
