Window XP Shutdown /

Hi

I have an Intel C2D 2 Ghz machine from some time i m facing problem in window shut down .... when i click on shutdown it shows "Window is shutting down " and hangs .....

I formated the machine and re-install the window XP with service pack 3 and latest windows updates but no luck ...

please suggest can it be some problem with hardware (mother board etc).....

i am able to restart the machine but not able to shutdown it...

and in case of hibernate also it says "Preparing to hibernate" and goes hags....

i have changed the SMPS (power supply) also but no luck

plz help

What does his movie collection have to do with shutting down? :confused:

Also, tho no harm in defragging, its unlikely to affect the shut down process.

Well my friends loves saving lot's of Movie DVD's on their hard drive using Alcohol (Make Images) on the same partition in which windows reside like desktop/My Documents

Than starts complaining that their boot speed has become slow or shut down speed has become slow.

Just after deletion these image files their speed is normal again. It's my experience. Correct me if I am wrong

Check if XP is trying to clear paging file at shutdown. If that value in the registry is 1 then change it to 0 and see if it makes a difference.
