hi,

i have recently installed windows xp SP2 in my server machine which was laying idle as we have latest servers recently procured. by the way this server is having 10 GB SCSI and p-IV processor (year 2002 Make).

well, the installation did go fine and am working on it. but the real issue came when using it... i thought that being an SCSI HDD, the compulter would be a breeze but to my surprise... when i log off, i takes ages to log off. it works fine when logged in once but to log in, it again takes ages. why is this so... is it that xp is not being specifically meant for server (in case) installation.

well, if there is any cure for this, pls suggest as this is really something i never imagined. even to shut down the same scenarion come to play.

any help out there..

May be your Hard drive is cluttered. Try defragmenting your hard drive. If this doesnt do the trick, format your HDD and reinstall WinXP.

i have a PIII with 256 MB RAM but winXP runs fine in this bcoz i use classical view & in the type of login & logoff i dont use welcome screen
&
2ndly this prob can occur because of the LAN problem that is ur system take a long time to connect to network while loggin in & take long time to disconncet these connection
just tell at the time of shut down where ur machine stucks....... i think it shows logging off & stucks.........

Go to control panel->user accounts
"Change the way users log on/off"
"Fast user switching"

Check this,

Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts

Now, select "Change the way users log on or log off.

N see if Fast user switching is enabled or not. If not , then enable it n see if the problem persists.

N for speed, i would recommend to use GameXP for gud performance. It really gives a boost to the speed with a click of a mouse.

am giving you a secret command

my favorit sfc, stands for system file checker, but for xp, you need to open the command prompt, type in sfc /scannow and you might need a xp cd,
in digit a few months back, i got some reg hacks to shut down a pc faster, thanks to digit for that, it really works, and for start ups try the msconfig command, just run msconfig and go to start up tabs, and de-select the things you don't want to start, it will help,
