I've got a 1mbps connection at home via a dsl modem. The modem is not wifi and is connected to one of the laptops via an ethernet cable. The laptops both run windows xp sp2 and i want to use the net connection on one of the laptops via the wifi on the connected laptop. Both laptops are wifi enabled and i can't get any extra hardware if required. Would the above be possible? I've tried messing around a lot with the ip settings and what not but i'm not much good with them and couldn't figure it out.
Also, how do you connect windows vista with windows xp via wifi?

Does your DSL router have additional ports? If no, mostly there is no way. You will have to purchase some hardware.

Very Simple.
1.Connect your modem with any 1 laptop via ethernet port or USB port (if available)
2.Now Share this Connection, and give interface of your laptop's wireless connection.
3.Make sure Wireless Conn. IP Settings must be Automatic not manually configured.
4.Now Come to second laptop, configure Wireless connection automatic here too.
5.Switch on wifi on both laptops and switch on your modem.
Thats it Now you will be accessing Internet on Both laptops
Same thing will apply if You r using VISTA.

I think it would be easier to setup a Vista laptop to be the hotspot...I've had limited sucess with XP.
