There are plenty of reasons to have a HD 6870.
1. Their performance is almost same in games and HD 6870 is more than 2.5K cheaper than GTX 470.
2. 6870 is a very cool card and also very energy efficient. It has a power rating of only 19W at idle state. GTX 470 has heating issue and unless cards with custom cooling design are bought, they have problem with Indian climate unless you have an AC running on your computer room. The custom design cards will further costs more than the normal one. Its power consumption is far higher than that of HD 6870 in both full load and idle condition.

^^ Yes i agree with you. 6870 is the better card to buy as its similar in performance with 470 but is more power efficient and is thermally cooler. The initial fermi batches i.e 480 and 470 are plagued with heating issues so can be avoided due to this reason.
But i suggest Max.4u to go for or atleast wait for the gtx570 to be launched which is today ! On paper its got almost same power as that of gtx 480 and is expected to run much cooler. Surely its goin to outclass 6870 and take the fight all the way to 6970 and 6950(cayman). Only if its priced right.

Google "GTX 570 review" at 7:30 pm today. Of course it will be launched in India, but will take about a month or so. It would be around 20k, but that is only my guess.
ok.. just saw the news that its priced at $369 ~ 17k. but shall it take a month to reach india..?

17k is the us price, add about 3-4k for india. Gtx 580 was launched on 10th November, and i has only started launching in india. Maybe launch could commence early, you just have to wait and watch.

And besides intel sandybridge processors will also launch next month.

If you can wait. I seriously recommend you to wait for 1 month and then decide which one to take. As many cards are released just and being released end of this month. Currently Nvidia 570 looks very promising and it's price is going to be fair compared to GTX 470. And also during those 1 month even drivers too get stable for hardware to perform good and show their true numbers. this goes to ATI (oops,AMD now).
It's Bad choice to get 470 now unless you get it below 16500k ...which is highly impossible in India. If any friend or relative comes get it from them, it's comes for only 10k but with cost of no warranty...
At present my GTX 470 blasts all games in maximum settings except Metro 2033( damn, this game is too harsh on cards).
@Regarding Noise and heat about Fermi
Yes, its partly true. they are loud unless you use MSI afterburner or other tool to control their fan speed well. There is no problem with my card as they are being controlled by MSI afterburner (manual fan settings). My card never reaches 75c+ with fan speed just 65-70% , so it's not unusual loud compared to other cards.
