2nd 1 is better but after some changes:

change the procy to E8400 (8.5k) if u want dual core or get a Q6600 (9.5k) if u want a quad core.since ur buying abit IP35-E get a cheap gfx card like 8400.
 
Get a higher end Phenom which will become cheaper by the next month.
Then the first one will be better. But please get the B3 phenom, not the B2 phenom.

The basic difference is that the former is better at Multitasking and Simultaneous multithreading and memory bandwidth, along with offering more performance during Virtualisation, while the later is better at running single processor intensive tasks and Overclocking.

So if you are a gamer or a photoshopper or a hardcore overclocker get the Intel Rig.

Ok, this is my revised config..

1) Core2Duo E8400
2) Abit IP35-E
3) Kingston 2x1Gb DDR2 800 RAM
4) Seagate 500Gb HDD
5) LG DVD writer
6) Mercury ATX Cabinet
7) 19" Viewsonic VX922
8) XFX 8600 GT
9) 450VA UPS

Will be using this comp for movies, gaming, and a hell lot of Photoshop!
Cant change the monitor or graphics card, coz they r 'hand-me-downs' from my brother..(!)
but i guess these should be enough..

Get 8600GT from other brand instead...or u have some bugs go 4 9600GT or GSO they r better than 8600GT :D
