Right off the assembly line
i have one Kingston DDR2 RAM 1 GB 667. (OLD)
i bought another 1GB DDR2 RAM of Kingstom 667.(NEW BOUGHT TODAY)

when just the 1 GB is connected (OLD RAM or NEW RAM) it shows 896 mb of RAM.

BUT when both are in the slot then the system property still shows 896MB RAM.

Pc config:

Pentium D 2.8
D102GGC

Why is this happening ???........Is new ram is not compatible ( if yes ,then why) ???....

as per *www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D102GGC2/index.htm
if it is the exact model then it couldnt run at 667 so it will run at 533..

there are only two slots of memory it seems it doesnt support 1gb in 1 slot and 1 gb in 1 slot according to the technical product specification *www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d102ggc2/sb/CS-029352.htm as there are no mention of the same there.

check your memory section in the motherboard manual

in my PC 1 Gb ram of 667 is working fine.......but both (acc to specification) are not......so what should i do now ???......should i buy the ram of diff freq (lower ) ( ithink in that case there is freq mismatch) or simply i can't upgrade my RAM....:(

well according to document spec..it should support upto 2gb memory. spelt out both of your memory model no. to see if the memory experts here can figure it out

Lets Do It!
Your board supports DDR2 533MHz and DDR2 400MHz DIMMs ... Upgradable to 2GB.

Thats why they aren't compatible.They are 667MHz.

it could be this...the two ram are different as one Module Size 1024 MB (1 rank, 8 banks) and the other has Module Size 1024 MB (2 ranks, 4 banks) ..though this could be more an issue in the case of running in dual channel mode..dont know whether the chipset has a limitation in supporting 2gb if the clock speed is underclocked to 533 from 667 or it is of a different make even if you are not trying to run in dual channel...but looks like your motherboard cannot recognize beyond 1gb goes to show that it wont support 2gb memory of 667 speed probably in dual channel becos both chip are different..

maybe it try to run in dual channel mode when connected and sense memory difference so do not recognize the other memory module.
this looks more likely

or it cannot underclocked to 533 from 667 in dual channel
or it cannot underclocked to 533 from 667 when two slots are occupied

I think you should check whether your new RAM and RAM slot is functioning properly by removing the older RAM from its slot and booting the PC.

i may be wrong..im just speculating....isnt it so that if u dont have a graphics card installed on the computer, a part of the main RAM is used for video acceleration? probably that is causing the problem...

welll see...

1024-896 = 128...and thats the video ram on this mobo.

nope i m afraid that is not an issue for him..the problem for him is another 1gb of memory in another slot is not being taken into account by his system.
