What is custom ROM?

Well, been through the forums and noticed this term being used a lot. I suppose its for upgrading your mobile to a new platform?

So, enlighten me about what that means. What is IT actually, where does it go, how do you get it, whats the format, pros, cons, everything

I joined the forum earlier but have been going thru the various posts recently and I came across your post. That is a real good source that you have pointed out. Thank you very much as at one sitting I was able to learn a lot on rooting.
