Yes, all of them are free and open source software (except for MediaCoder, which is a clean freeware).

Just use VLC or SM Player to play them. AVI is dead. No point in converting high quality videos to space consuming .avi files.

Well most of the movies that I download are in avi format and the quality is great and the size is also low. Anyways I have an old Nokia phone, it plays .avi format along with 3gp format so wanted to convert for the phone.

The last I tried, it was a safe tool. But be careful what additional offerings are offered through the installer.

Handbrake and SUPER if you can handle some technical stuff.
