Hello Friends,

I have an old pc which i bought in 2008, now i want to upgrade it.

Below is the configuration:

1. Motherboard: Biostar P35d2-a7

2. Processor: Intel core 2 duo E8200

3. RAM: 2GB DDR2

4. Hard disk: 500 GB + 320 GB

5. Power Supply: Corsair Vs 450

6. Graphic Card: Sparkle gt7200 256MB

Please suggest me a good configuration and what are the things i can use from the above.

Thanks

If you'll change your processor, then you'll have to change your motherboard and RAM too.

PSU is the only thing which you will be able to re-use in that case.

However, E8200 is a pretty decent processor still and you also seem to have a fine PSU. Just buy a good graphic card - something around the level of HD 7770 and add more RAM. That would do.

May be you can even buy a stronger GPU - GTX 650 Ti or HD 7850 level, never mind the bottleneck if you know you'll upgrade your CPU one day.

Whats your max budget and pc usage?

For updating only RAM and Graphic Card 5K

If i have to update motherboard and Processor then 12 -15K

The PC is mostly used for Games(medium level) and Movies.

Hello,

Whats the difference between a Graphic card and GPU?

> get HD7750 and upgrade the complete system soon.

> GPU is the processor on a graphic card.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
1. Watching Movies Some time HD movies
2. Playing games (Assassin creed 1, call of duty 4, need for speed pro, Age of empires, GTA san andreas and other small games).

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 15K for upgrade

If i have to upgrade only RAM and Graphic card then 5K

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: NO

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: I have Seagate Hard Disk 500GB + 320GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I have Dell SW198WFP 19 inch LCD Monitor

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: PSU, Hard Disk and Monitor

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: In one month

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: I wil do it my self

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Hyderabad and i am open to online purchase as well.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: No

HDD too. :)

@rajkiran : please tell if you can extend the budget a lil bit.
if not then, I'd suggest get a good Proccessor + mobo + Ram and leave GPU for later.

so you ready to go for Proccessor + mobo + Ram now and invest in a decent GPU later on ?

Please dont call anyone here "sir" its very embarrassing. :(

If you want all the four (CPU + mobo + RAM +GPU)

AMD FX 4130 3.8GHz @ 6.5k
ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 @ 3.9
Corsair Value Series 4GB @ 2k
HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 @ 5.5K

total : 17.9 k

If you go for GPU later.

AMD FX 6300 4.4 GHz @ 7.5 k
ASUS M5 A97 LE @6.6k
Corsair Value series 4 GB @ 2.1k
CM Hyper TX3 @ 1.4k

total : 17.6 k
you may add the same cooler in the first config too.

Intel config : (without GPU)
Intel i5 3330 @11k
Gigabyte B75 D3h @ 4.3k
Corsair Value Series 4GB @ 2k

total : 17.3k

Intel Config (with GPU)

Intel i3 3210 @ 7k
Gigabyte B75 D3h @ 4.3k
Corsair Value Series 4GB @ 2k

total = 13.3k + GPU
Intel configs dont require add on coolers. so, not added. ;)
please suggest GPU guys.

GT 630 is the minimum one should go with. And please always mention your budget whenever asking for buying advice :)

^^ Buddy, there is no point of getting an i3, a dual core processor, by spending 7K. Instead, get a FX-6300 which is a 6 Core processor and far better choice at 7.3K price point. In Kolkata, I checked with M.D. Computers last week and the price is within 7K including tax for it. Better call them and verify.
If you want my suggestion then get the following things:-

FX-6300 @ 7.35K (AMD FX 6-Core Black Edition FX-6300 (FD6300WMHKBOX) Processors)
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 @ 5.1K
Corsair Value Series 1333 MHz 4GB DDR3 @ 2K
HD 6670 1 GB GDDR5 @ 5.5K

@rajkiran

Get Cilus's config eyes closed except the GPU. I won't recommend anyone to go for an old gen card. Instead, spend 1k more and grab the 7750 1gb.
Its a lot better than 6670 and based on GCN architecture.

ico's advice on 7770 is also good. See if you can add that instead and you'll be completely covered for gaming.
