You are kidding arent you ?
Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?

That sounds preposterous to me.

If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations. I hope you realise that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to acheive. A lot of people dont realise this.

Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Vista, so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve. IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows. Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.

Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.

I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.

and..I have seen such id!ots in few forums!worst,those win users who switched to Linux are first searching for control panel,googling for AV,trying to install setup.exe's of spybot,ad-aware,seeking everything in windows,thinking Linux is another alternate Windows pathetic!

Wi!dows users are simply restricting themselves inside windows.they dont understand what other superior OS are having!.those who switched to Open Source and Linux like me and many come back and say: "we got a better and superior option than this paid cr@p" -but sadly,our windows boy cannot open the eyes and see the reality!Hopefully this will be changing with distros like Ubuntu,PclinuxOS etc

Well some damn causes were given to support Windows, I personally do not believe that a computer cannot run without Windows. The Pro Applications may not run but the whole computer would be useless without linux.... I do not believe in that $hit.

an OS is just that a fking OS. it doesnt matter what OS you use if all you du is bash some other OS in forums. its just a tool. what you do using the tool matters a lot than what tool you are using. I think most of the users dont have time to RTFM, they just want to get the work done. so dont generalise and call them fools, when you are a perfect example of one.

I have organised a city wide event (when i was in college) called Linuxplore, went to lot of computer shops and IT training centres in chennai talked with people there gave them lot of posters designed by us to display and also asked their students to come to the event. the sessions in the event were conducted by our seniors about what free software is, installing, using linux etcetra.. we gave everyone, who attended the event, a CD with linux distro to try. the event was mainly attended by college students and even a few working people.. and you should have been there in the q and a session to know what an average user thinks and wants from a PC.
all this back in 2002... I wish there was ubuntu at that time.

so if you want other people to try what you think is good, tell them politely. If you are going to call them fools and boast over your mental capabilities no one would care to give you a sh!t.

I agree with you , one should use the OS that one likes. I mean people should use OS that they think is good , i mean some people here like NOD32 as Anti-virus & some like Avast ! as their antivirus software that's the same with OS , Every OS out there has its own stregths & weaknesses, There is no OS out there that could be called as best.

Bashing people who uses diffrent OS than you use is downright stupid , This is a free forum , people here have their own free opinion , this is no jail so deal with it.
