I have an IMAP enabled mail provided to me by my university. Can I use my Gmail web interface to access the email of my university mailbox, as the former is a more powerful interface.

Gmail's Mail fetcher only supports POP. It does NOT retrieve mails with IMAP.

So, you need to see whether your university supports POP or not.

^OP wants to fetch mails from his university's IMAP account in gmail, not gmail messages on his computer.
