Urgent Help Needed
Hi fellow g33kz
I am Mridul Singhai from Jabalpur, India . I own a Western Digital Elements Portable 160gb External Hard Drive in which i have stored some movies, documents ,gamez and music . I am facing a problem with it that in it, a folder name $RECYCLE.BIN (SIZE 28 GB) is present. And in it, subfolders are there called

  1. Recycle Bin - I have emptied it
  2. S-1-5-21-764231608-913101004-2147017980-1000
  3. S-1-5-21-1323441200-1623038442-3344255296-1000
  4. S-1-5-21-1361737346-427967954-432400909-1000
  5. S-1-5-21-1953892344-4245925554-1468773186-1000
  6. and 5 more like that


But i cant open alll those 9 folders called S-1-5- etc.....]

Those folders are consuming my 28gigs of space.........
I m afraid that if i deleted them, will they affect my data
Please help URGENT

My system configs are :
Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHZ
2 GB DDR 2 RAM
ASUS Motherboard
Windows 7

I am not comfirmed but try a linux live cd and see that what it contains but most probably it contains virus so format it watch out for other members reply
 
Try this :
rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin
(type the above in run>cmd)

You can also try 'Revo' to remove these files. Download this, go to the cleaning up section, and down the bottom there should be a button asking you if you want to remove this used space .

High probability is that, it is a virus.
Scan those folders specifically using Norton/AVG/Kaspersky.
Remove the infections, if any.

If nothing works out, boot the machine in Safe mode and delete those folders.

DONOT attempt to open any of the files.
Opening might spread teh virus to other parts of ur system.
