What happens when you boot laptop with Windows CD? What happens after BIOS loads? Do you see any messages like "Press any key to continue booting from CD.."?

does it support booting from usb ? if so, then you can easily copy your xp CD to a pen drive (google for how) .
ALso vista and 7 can be installed via mounting their dvd's iso image (no need for cd) . not sure if it will work with xp
