This is my first post in this forum & would really appreciate if someone could help me to build a gaming pc.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: PC should be able to run games released in the last 1-2 years, NFS, GTA, Crysis, Battlefield, Call of Duty etc.
Also I will use it for photo & video editing purpose however it will mostly be used for gaming.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Rs. 25,000-30,000

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7 (64 Bit)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I already use a 19" iBall LCD monitor (Please suggest if upgrade is required)

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I have an iBall monitor with integrated speakers, iBall mouse & keyboard, DVD burner & a 320 GB hard disk which I will reuse.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Aug '14

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: It will be done by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Mumbai. I prefer to buy from a store instead of online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I have a configuration in mind & needed suggestions on it :

Processor - Intel Core i5 3330

Mother Board - Please suggest

GPU (1GB DDR5)- Radeon HD 7770 or R7 240 or R7 250 or Nvidia GT 640

4GB DDR 3 RAM

500W PSU & cabinet - which brand?

I will be adding two hard disks to my pc. One will be the old 320GB which I currently use & the other will be the new 1TB hard disk.

I have a confusion with the GPU's as to which one to select or are there other alternatives.

By budget is 30k max but if it can be reduced to some extent by selecting the right parts it will be helpful.

Thanks.

FX 6300 - 7.5k
Gigabyte 970A DS3P - 5.5k
HyperXFury 4GB - 2.8k
WD Blue 1 TB - 3.5k
GTX 750Ti - 11k
Antec VP 450p - 2.5k
Deepcool Tesseract - 2.5k

TOTAL ~ 35k

It's a little over your budget so if you want to cut prices, get R7 250x ~7.5k instead of GTX 750Ti.

Intel Rig -
Intel Core i5 3450/4440 -11000
Gigabyte B75M-D3H / B85M-D3H -4100 / 5300
Corsair Vengeance 4GB / Kingston HyperX Fury 1600Mhz -2800,
WD Caviar Blue 1TB -3800,
Antec VP450P -2600,
Any local -600.
TOTAL -24,900 / 25900.

AMD Rig -
AMD FX6300 -7300
ASUS M5A78L-M-USB3 / Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2PT(lacks USB3)-4250 / 3000
Corsair Vengeance 4GB / Kingston HyperX Fury 1600Mhz -2800,
WD Caviar Blue 1TB -3800,
Antec VP450P -2600,
Any local -600.
TOTAL -21,350 / 20100.

Depending on your budget, you can get the following graphics card
14k - Sapphire R9 270X Dual X
11k - Sapphire R7 265 Dual X
10.5k - Zotac GTX 750ti
9k - Zotac GTX 750
7k - Sapphire R7 250X/7770

Since you're using it for gaming more than anything else, I would go down the AMD route and pick at least a Sapphire R7 265 along with the USB3 variant of the motherboard. Total cost would be around 31.5k. That's the least you should go if you want a gaming rig.
A fancy cabinet is nice to have but is not as essential as the rest of the components that will perform.

If I take the intel route, the overall performance would be better. However, you would lose out in games overall if you had to chose a card like the R7-250x. This is of course taking into consideration that your budget cannot be stretched further.

PS - What's the resolution of your monitor? I'm assuming it is 1366x768. For that resolution, the R7 265 should allow you to play any recent game at high/very high/ ultra settings (depending on the game) @ 60fps+. You would be able to max out most games with an FX6300 and an R7 265 at that resolution (if you consider ~40 fps playable).

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

My monitor resolution is 1024x768 & only has a VGA connector. I just found out that the HD 7770 & R7 250X does not have that port however R7 250 has a VGA port. I currently do not wish to change my monitor as my budget will increase so I will have to use a GPU which has a VGA port. I may change my monitor in the future.

Talking about the CPU, I was initially inclined to go for Intel Core i5. I currently have a very basic AMD Athlon system & when I inquired at a local dealer if they would buy back my old system, he said that AMD systems do not have much value compared to Intel & no one would buy it. Therefore I was thinking of upgrading to an Intel system.

So now I have two queries :

1) Will the AMD FX6300 be a better option compared to the Intel i5?

2) Based on the monitor that I use, will the R7 250 be good or are there other options in the GTX series which fall in my budget?

Thanks once again.

each VGA card (at least sapphire) comes with a DVI to VGA adaptor. so don't worry on that front :)

1) If you want to game then yes, for the same price you can put in a beefier GPU

2) no. based on your budget you can go higher :)

1024x768 is a resolution the R7-265 will laugh at :D

I checked the cost of R7-265 on flipkart & its around 12K, its above my budget for a GPU but I think the R7 250X would be better don't you think as its around 7-8K?

1) Intel i5 is much better in terms of gaming...
2) Sapphire R7 250x 1GB -6000 is good enough for your monitor.

FX6300 is a better option than i5 because its 5k cheaper. Look at the whole thing

FX6300 + R7 270X
i5 4xxx + R7 250X

Above two will cost similar but option 1 is lot better for gaming as a whole.

OP's monitor resolution is only 1024x768 and 270x is a 1080P gaming GPU so 250x is perfectly suitable to his resolution coupled with an i5 the gaming will be excellent...

Ok so I have decided to use R7 250X as my GPU as it fits in my budget.

I need to know the cost of Intel i5 3330 with Mobo & if its in my budget then I can decide which CPU is better (Intel or AMD).

I suggest you go for AMD. The FX6300 is not bad afterall.

CPU AMD FX 6300

if you are compromising on gaming performance, get i5(4th gen only!)+ gtx 750.
if you want more gaming performance, get fx 6300 +r7 265. both should cost approximately same.

I've told you, an i5 + R7 250x will not hold a candle to the FX6300 + R7-265. If you ever plan on changing your monitor don't take the i5 route.
At your current resolution however, an R7-250x should suffice. I would still recommend you get at least an GTX750 and nothing below that
