I have a very old P.C. which needs urgent upgrade for just smooth running of windows 7.
It has a micro ATX motherboard.
Everything needs to be replaced.
Give a good configuration.
Upgrade should include Motherboard, Processor, RAM, Hard Drive and PSU. Nothing else. Budget is 10k. Less because it should just run smoothly.

WDC Blue 500GB @ 1.7k
GSkill/Corsair Value RAM 2GB DDR3 @ 0.8k
FSP SAGAII 500W @ 2k

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A:Just normal usage. Editing documents, listening music, viewing videos. Not Hardcore:-|.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A:Yes.

3. What is your MAX budget?
A:10k.

4. Planning to overclock?
A:No.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A:Windows 7 32bit.

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A:A 320GB would do. A better one is welcome if it can be accommodated within the budget.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A:1024x768. 17-18.5" LED.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A:3-4:oops:

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A:Will be built by an assembler but i know how to do.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A:Soon. Around October-November 2011.

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A:Yes:).

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A:Monitor(suggest one but planning to get it much later). UPS. Speakers. Cabinet.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Damanjodi(ORISSA). Nearest City-Visakhapatnam.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A:I'm only interested to upgrade my motherboard, PSU, processor and RAM. These four should make out a budget of 10k. But also suggest a monitor of the size as specified. Preferably LED.

*Monitor not in budget.

My suggestion:
AMD AthlonII X3 440 @ 3k

WDC Blue 500GB @ 1.7k
GSkill/Corsair Value RAM 2GB DDR3 @ 0.8k
FSP SAGAII 500W @ 2k
Total = 10k

Oh! You too from Orissa.
Actually at this budget AMD is the best Value For Money. Though you can get an INTEL DUAL CORE at this budget, but this AMD rig will serve you better than the INTEL DUAL CORE rig. The suggested config. has a Tri Core processor where as you get only an Dual Core from Intel for the same price. Also AMD offers much better graphics than the Intel Graphics. So, the best option is to opt for AMD.
Dont listen to the shopkeepers who will always divert your mind to buy Intel as their profit is a bit more in Intel. Ask for the Tri-Core AMD rig.

The TRI CORE AMD is better than E5800 (Dual Core).
CM eXtreme PSUs are to be avoided in every case.

Within your Budget Intel offerings are next to crap. Decent CPUs from Intel start from 5.6K upwards and they cant be fitted in your budget.

i3 Processor + H61 Mobo itself will cost you near 9K.

Saswat's suggested rig can run Win 7 without any issues will Aero On so go with it. If You need upgrade for CPU then you can go for a Quad or Hexa Core Phenom II without changing any part of it.
