Upgrading my old PC - Need suggestions

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first thread/posting in the forum! :noob: :clap2:

I'm upgrading my old PC and planning to buy the components this weekend so I request the experts to provide their valuable advice!

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Will use it for casual gaming (Crysis, Battlefield, COD) and Multimedia (HD, Blue Ray movies).

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 20k for CPU(Ivy Bridge preferably), Motherboard, RAM, Cabinet, 2.1 speakers and Graphics Card(preferably Nvidia).

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7, 8

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:Very less. 120 GB or max 250. Already have an old 80GB IDE HDD. Should I trade in for a new one since I feel it might hinder the overall performance of the system? I can compromise on the hard disk size for a better config.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:I have a Samsung SyncMaster 753S (17"). Still in fine working condition so no need to upgrade.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:Monitor, Mouse, keyboard, CD drive.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:4-5 Aug

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Haven't built a desktop before but would be grateful if anyone could provide me a link which gives the instructions to build one.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:I'm planning to buy the components in Bangalore so I'm open to suggestions for a good vendor with reasonable pricing for the components specified. No problems with online shopping (provided I'm informed of genuine websites).

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: A cheap UPS solution outside the budget I have mentioned above. Max budget 3k.

Thanks!

within 20k ivy bridge isn't possible with rest components. So i would like to suggest below.
Intel G620 - 3.3k
Gigabyte h61md2h - 3k
Transcend 1333mhz ddr3 4gb ram - 1.3k
Cheap cabinet - 0.8k
Cosair cx430 v2 psu -2.3k
Creative 2.1 speakers - 1.2k
GPU Sapphire AMD/ATI 7750 HD 1GB DDR5 - 7.5k

Total - 19.4k-20k

I personally recommend you to add 4k more to budget and go for intel core i3 2120 and gigabyte 7770 hd instead of intel g620 and 7750 hd. It'll increase you pc's performance to 1.5x better than the 20k rig above.Hope this helps..

Thanks for the response 'The Sorrow'.

I'll take your suggestion for the graphic card seriously and will go with the gigabyte 7770 hd. Since it exceeds the budget, I'm planning to get it next month after my salary credit :lol:. Right now I'll just stick to improving my basic config. I searched around a bit and came up some more requirements to my PC.

1.)I'll be adding a SSD drive into my spec in the future so any good MB which provides support for that would be a great addition (USB 3.0 support would be a bonus!).

2.)I'll stick to your suggestion and go for Intel core i3 2120 processor. Just wanted to confirm if this supports 64-bit operation?

3.)With the rest of the config suggested by you being the same and excluding the graphics card for now, I guess we would be left with around 7.5-8k for the Mobo so could you suggest any model which suits my needs?

4.)Would be equally helpful if you could suggest a good UPS solution within 3k outside of the budget along with a pointer on instructions how to set up a rig.

5.)Any suggestions for a trustworthy vendor in Bangalore if possible.

Thanks again!

HD 7770 with i3-2120 and a sub 8k mobo wont fit in your budget.
Get:
* Intel i3-2100 -- 6.2k
* Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H -- 4.6k
* Corsair 4GB DDR3 Value RAM -- 1.3k
* Corsair CX-430v2 -- 2.5k
* Zebronics Deluxe w/o PSU -- 0.8k
* MSI HD 6770 1GB DDR5 -- 6.5k
Total ---- 21.9k
Use your current speaker, UPS and HDD too.

If you can spend more, then do mention.

For UPS you can get Intex 1KVA UPS for 2.5k. Else APC 600VA will cost around 2k.

A: Generally, SSDs are used in high-end gaming rigs but you can add it later if you want to.

2.)I'll stick to your suggestion and go for Intel core i3 2120 processor. Just wanted to confirm if this supports 64-bit operation?
A: Yes.

3.)With the rest of the config suggested by you being the same and excluding the graphics card for now, I guess we would be left with around 7.5-8k for the Mobo so could you suggest any model which suits my needs?
A: Get a Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2H-USB3(don't know if its available india). If its not then go for Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H for 4.8k

4.)Would be equally helpful if you could suggest a good UPS solution within 3k outside of the budget along with a pointer on instructions how to set up a rig.

A: I don't know much about UPS. I mainly use it to shutdown my system safely if i'm on work.

5.)Any suggestions for a trustworthy vendor in Bangalore if possible.
A: Don't know.

Spending 1.5k extra just for USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0(6GB/s) isn't really worth it if you don't use a usb 3.0 external hdd to save your data and carry with you. Personally i don't think its good to spend 1.5k for usb 3.0.

Intel core i3 2120 - 7k
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H - 4.8k
Transcend 1333mhz ddr3 4gb ram - 1.3k
Cheap cabinet - 0.8k
Cosair cx430 v2 psu -2.3k
Creative 2.1 speakers - 1.2k

Total - 17.5k

A good ups will cost you 2.1-2.5k. If you want you can add a G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 1333mhz 4gb instead of transcend. It'll slightly increase performance. Total will be 20k without graphic card. Add a gigabyte 7770hd and your pc will be more than a casual gaming pc.
You will be able to play demanding games like battlefield 3 on ultra-high settings with 30+ fps :D.
