1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Will use MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Premiere, Corel Draw, Internet (heavy usage i.e. multi-tab/browser), Media Player to watch films etc. In short, I'll use system for office & video/music/image editing application for atleast 12-14 hours. Some game also.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 15k, can add 1k more if necessary.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows XP & 7 i.e dual boot.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Have 80 GB PATA & 160 GB SATA internal drive.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Have 20 inch Samsung LCD Monitor, resolution might be 1680 x 1050 or more.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, UPS, Speaker, KB, Mouse. Also have Buffalo external DVD Writer & PATA LG DVD internal writer.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: This week.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will do myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi. Planned to buy from CTC/CE/PLComputers. Can buy online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Don't have graphic card & not looking for it either as budget is tight. Secondly, worrying about 80 GB PATA seagate HDD & LG DVD writer whether it will work with mobo (GA H61M-D2H). If not, please suggest.

I've following configuration in mind -

Processor - Intel i3 2100 - Rs 6400
Mobo - GA H61M-D2H - Rs 3200
RAM - 4GB DDR3 Corsair 1333Mhz - Rs 1250
SMPS - Corsair VS-450 - Rs 2250
Cabinet - Rs 700
HDD (SATA) - ?
DVD Writer (SATA) - ?

A word about gigabyte. I read RMA experience of topgear in this forum itself. Is their RMA record good in Delhi or not? Secondly, if I buy stuff from flipkart, like corsair 4GB DDR3 RAM, will I face any sort of problem during RMA? Someone (one assembler in NP) told me that RMA is city-specific i.e If I bought it in Delhi, then warranty service will be provided in Delhi only, not in some other city.

Thanks.

For HDD, get WD Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA @ 3.9K and get Asus 24X Black DVD R/W @ 1.1K.

Regarding warranty, almost all the companies, including Corsair, provide National warranty and you can avail it anywhere in India, no matter from where you have bought it.

Yesterday I visited Nehru Place. However, nowhere GA-H61M-D2H - USB3 model is unavailable. Even it is not available on flipkart. Is this model not supplied in India.

Secondly, ASUS DVD R/W is avilable there but cost 150 more than other products. Is ASUS DVD R/W a reliable & durable product? However, my past experiences with LG, Samsung etc DVD drive wasn't good & mostly performed erratically after 1-1.5 yrs, though I use it occasionally.

Please suggest.
