LUCKNOW: The department of food and civil supplies in Uttar Pradesh is all set to see a revamp, at least on the technology front. Newly appointed commissioner for food and civil supplies, Santosh Yadav, has announced that to maintain transparency in the functioning of the department, each regional food controller will now be given a separate Facebook page.
To be handed out to all concerned officials within a month, inspectors will be required to update the status of their completed work and problems faced. Yadav has also encouraged inspectors to engage in a dialogue with fellow inspectors and use the platform to seek suggestions from other food inspectors.
The departmental revamp, Yadav said, will also include keeping inspectors informed via text messages.
Those of us who have not learnt the use of computers have also been asked to learn within a month. It appears the department is all set to go high-tech in the coming days, a food controller said.
The Facebook fever, officials said, is catching the imagination of most government functionaries. In this case, Yadav apparently, took clues from the Noida police, who launched a similar initiative to nab traffic offenders and decided to turn the department of food and civil supplies into a hi-tech zone as well.
To remain connected on the Facebook and in touch with the department, Yadav has also said that all food controllers will be provide data cards. Once the system is put in place and all regional food controllers are on board, he will review the functioning of the department on Facebook every Thursday.
