I have an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop with Realtek HD Audio(At least that is what the software says in windows). I recently installed FreeBSD 7 and after a bit research was finally able to play sound after downloading and installing the Open Sound System(OSS). But, the problem is that no mixers recognize the sound device. When I used the osstest command to test the sound, I heard sound only from /dev/oss/hdaudio0/pcm5 and /dev/oss/hdaudio0/spdout0. In the pcm5 device, the right channel was outputting only noise so I ruled out this device. I chose to use the spdout0 device (which obviously, as its name explains, is the SPDIF-out) as it plays clear sound. I wan kmix to use this device but I don't know how to do it. I have tried to play a complete song using the ossplay program using the spdout0 device. Can anyone tell me how can I make it my default sound device so that I can play audio???

Check your audio chipset with lspci.
Also check fstat if anything is using the sound device.
