unable to resume from standby

I have sony vaio Y series netbook Win7 Starter 32bit, AMD E350 processor, 2 GB RAM, it’s about 1.5 years old.
Now it fails to resume from Standby or ‘Screen turned off’ mode.
The blinking orange light (during standby) does turn green when I press power button, but nothing happens thereafter. I have to give a hard break and start all over again.
For now I have disabled all power saving options. Usual Shutdown & start works properly though.
Any pointers for troubleshooting this issue would be great. Thx.

Display connector problem (in the motherboard).
Solution: none, unless you decide to change the motherboard.

May be you system cell is getting weak so its not holding enough power to resume from stand by.
