I got this Sony DRU 190A DVD Writer. Recently, it is showing a strange problem. it is getting detected as a drive but it is not able to read any disk. it is not even trying to do so. (ie., the disk is not rotating and the drive does not seem to respond). though it is showed as the drive in the os. Even when I insert a bootable disk in the drive, it is not being detected or boot from the drive. I opened the drive and connected to see what is happening. When a disk is inserted, the disk is spinning for 2 secs, the laser is blinking 2-3 times. and the disk spinning is stopped. the disk does not rotate there after. the eject and insert are going well when I am pressing the button on the drive and also when I am doing it through the OS. In Vista, when I try to open the drive, it is ejecting automatically and prompting to insert a disk.
I downloaded the firmwares for this drive. does re-flashing the firmware fix the drive? Is there any other way?
Which is the best SATA DVD Writer available? Are there any issues with SATA drives as of now? which is better? SATA or PATA?
Please help me with this issue... Thanks a lot....
