Transfter ADS from old win2k server to NEW win2k server how?

My dear Friends

In my company Primary Domain Controler is as below

P4 2.4
D845GVSR Mother Board
512 MB RAM
80 GB IDE HDD
On Board LAN 10/100

In this server

OS is Windows 2000 Server With Active Directory AND DNS is working fine

now Because of Load on THIS PDC we purchase NEW server which hardware is

TWO AMD Opteron 242
4 GB ECC RAM
T8W Tiger Mother Board
200 GB SATA HDD


Now i Want to Backup ADS of My inter server and

restore ADS to AMD server and remove Inter server from network

for ADS BACKup and restore INTEL to AMD

which folder i have to take backup from where and how i have to restore on AMD server...!!!

Because SYS state is not possible because reg and com+ componant is not work in AMD server...!!

so plese help me..!!

if i take backup on only



Below are the files that complete the Active Directory.

ntds.dit (The database file.)
edb.chk (Checkpoint file.)
edb*.log (Transaction log files.)
res1.log and res2.log (Reserved transaction log files.)

and resoter on another server it will work or not.???

I persoanlly havent tried it yet but it should work since it has covered all the files of active directory...

give it a shot on test server first..

This would make your job a lot simpler.

But before removing the old server from the network after you have migrated,I suggest make sure you test everything related to actve directory,OU,groups,users before completely removing it of the network.

The best thing would be as Deep suggested to test it under a "test" environment.
