The No.1 Stupid
I know many of u might be knowing these tips but these are only for noobs and hence please dont fry me saying too dumb tutorial.
Here are some tips to increase the security of your computer and also how to bypass some security incase you forget/donno the password...
*Set BIOS password ress del while booting to goto BIOS settings . here look for password option and use it.It will make ur system ask for password everytime u boot ur system before transferring the control to bootloaders.
Bypass: Remove CMOS cell for a while and the password is gone.
*Set Administrator password: many of us and technicians who install windows dont put any admin password while installing, thinking we will make another account with admin rights to use and admin account will be hidden. But we should always put an admin password in our system beacuse that hidden admin account can be reached pressing ctrl+alt+del twice on the login screen.
Note:Admin account password or any account password of windows can also be cracked if granted physical access so keep ur system safe physically from crackers.
For people who use linux or linux dual boot with windows:
*Protecting single user mode: In linux , ur root password will not protect ur system if ur single user mode is not protected.
To protect ur single user mode , include following line in the end of file /etc/inittab :-
~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin
*Set Grub Password:For this:
first login as root , then type grub> md5crypt at terminal
password: *******
Ecnrypted: #$&#$fdfgfwer34564^%$^%
Now , Copy the encrypted string and place into /etc/grub.conf just above title of linux :
password --md5 #$%#$fewfwer34534^%$^%
Now the grub is password protected.
Note: No security is unbreachable , it depends on the knowledge of the cracker. Also security is as high as the weakest link in the chain. So , always keep backup of your imp data.
