1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Primarily Audio/ Video/Image Editing, with some 3d work (for animation related purposes)

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A:yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A:Rs. 70,000/-

4. Planning to overclock?
A:No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A:Windows 7 64 bit

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A:minimum 500gb

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: eyeing this monitor for 28,000/- LINK basically need the best possible monitor with an IPS Panel within Rs. 30,000/- .Other suggestions welcome.but has to be an IPS Panel.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A:Around 7

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

A:Speakers & Graphic card (will purchase later)

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A:Mumbai. will buy locally

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A:I am inquiring this for a friend who will use the PC mainly for animation work & audio/ video/ image editing, so he will need the best possible Processor & loads of RAM (actually 4-6 gb will be enough for now). the IPS panel is of utmost importance for better color reproduction. Since rendering is currently completely dependent on Processor & RAM, so these are the core components. he already has an old quadro FX card but will later add a new one so a powerful PSU is required. apart from speakers, graphic card & UPS, everything else is required. He uses the monitor in the link i provided at his office & absolutely swears by it so any other suggestion will have to be either equally good or even better. Please suggest a config. Thanx.

There is no board as DP8P67 (You got Intel's and ASUS' naming scheme mixed). It should be DP67BG.

Why those gaming mouse/KB? They aren't good for rendering/editing. I think he will need a high DPI mouse.

And Dell U2310H is just 1 inch smaller for nearly half the price. (14k-15k). Any other difference that makes it worth that much?

U2311H 1 inch smaller than U2410.
U2410 has a better response time. (Only useful for gaming)
U2410 is H-IPS and U2311H is e-IPS.
H-IPS has better aperture ratio than e-IPS.
Slightly better contrast and brightness.
e-IPS is a 6 bit monitor and U2410 is an 8bit monitor.

If OP's friend can notice the difference between the two monitors then he can go for U2410 (with masterkd's config) otherwise he can go for U2311H and...

I have a question here. Do local dealers sell the DVD writers for 900 itself or lesser? One of the dealers I enquired said it is 1080 rupees!!

Thanx for the configs guys....but he does not need such costly mouse & mouse pads. a logitech MX 518 @ Rs. 1200/- & a regular mouse pad with palm rest @Rs.25/- would be perfect for him. Also, he doesnot want to invest in such a costly cabinet either....suggest something within Rs.3000/- . I think a NZXT Gamma @ Rs.2000/- with additional fans will suffice. Will it support future graphic cards? Since he will be buying a mid range card in the future, i think a PSU such as Corsair VX 550 should be enough as well.
So, what do you guys think of this config-

Component | Make | Price | Comments Processor |Intel Core i7 2600|14500| no need of k edition if you wont overclock
Motherboard |Intel DH67CL|6500|
RAM |G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL|5500|
HDD |Seagate ITB 7200.12|2700|
DVD Writer |LG 22X SATA DVD|900|
PSU |Corsair VX 550|4800|
Case |NZXT Gamma with extra Fans|3000|
Monitor |Dell Ultrasharp U2410|27500|
| Total |65,400
Now add Rs. 1200/- for the MX 518 & Rs. 500/- for microsoft basic or logitech basic keyboard & the total comes to Rs.67,100/- . This leaves Rs. 3000/-. Any chance of getting an even better processor for this price? btw, the Dell U2410 has a resolution of 1920 x 1200...is there any IPS monitor with a standard res of 1920 x 1080?

yup gamma would be enough for mid range card
and likewise vx 550

I thought so

Dont you think that a higher resolution is better? Since you will be using image editing and stuff like that, right?

Well i was asking because 1920 x 1080 is a standard HD resolution...

So, anyway, if there are no options for processors,i think he should go with the config in my earlier post.

^ Standard rez is one thing, max resolution for your need is another. So look at your needs, not standard rez. oK?
