Tablet within 10k

Bencollins

Broken In
1. Budget : 10k or even less if possible. [can increase to 12k only if its really necessary]

2. Display type and size: 7" or more

3. Form Factor?: N/A

4. Preferred choice of brand: No idea about tablet brands. but reliability is my primary requirement. will use it for atleast 3 years, good A.S.S.

5. Preferred input method (QWERTY, touchscreen, numpad, touch-n-type): touch

6. What camera option you want? Not required, as i don't think i'll ever use my tab as a cam, but 5mp or more with HD/FHD recording will be good.

7. Preferred operating system? android, windows phone

8. Preferred connectivity options: 1 wifi, 3G too if possible.

9. Preferred applications: N/A

10. Primary use of handset: browsing, reading ebooks are primary use, Playing HD content and gaming [GTA, NFS MW] are secondary. ie: optional

11. Any specific mobile phones in consideration?: only nexus 7 16GB wifi in consideration as i don't know anything about tabs, not even brands/models except nexus 7

12. Any other info that you want to share: i'll always use this tab in my home, would never take it outside, so portability/size/weight doesn't matter, it must have good build and reliability as i intend to use it as an ebook reader, browser for atleast 3 years. considering it'll be used indoors, wifi is enough but 3G is a big +ve point as it'd save me from turning on my router everytime i want to browse/chat [i have a 3G router]. Camera is also not necessary as i never video call, but 5mp cam wid HD/full HD recording will be a huge +ve point.
screen should be crisp enough for reading ebooks and browsing, HD resolution is preferred over WVGA

Checkout my siggy. You will have a fair amount of idea what can you do with the Nexus 7.
And yes, N7 is the only tab, that fits all your requirement.

Nexus 7 is what you need to explore android. But the 10k model is wifi only so no 3g support. For 3g you need yo increase your budget.

Unless you are willing to use a 3G dongle. I am using a 3G dongle with a OTG cable and except for the fact that it looks like a pony tail, I am having no problem using 3G on it. After rooting and using 3G dongle I think my tablet is twice he value for money! : D

Well I have never got a chance to check the dongle thing but will look forward to do so hope you have added the info regarding this in your rooting guide.

Thanks for your replies guys.

@vyom: it'd be great if i can use 3G dongles. 3G dongles = 3G SIM based data cards right?
thanks for sharing, checked your n7 thread. it'll really help.

please answer these queries:

1.does nexus 7 has user replaceable battery?

2.does it support microsd card [quick google search shows it doesn't] so there is no way i can
increase storage?

3.how much storage space is available in 16GB variant?? for eg: my ipod touch has 8GB but only 6.5GB is available for the user.

4.how much storage space is required for my usage?
i've ~18GB pdf/ebooks but i usually keep only 2-3GB in my phone [my current ebook reader] :p
i'll keep 2-3 games like gta vice city, nfs mw, modern combat, and 10-12 small games like moto X mayhem.
50-60 HD music videos. no HD movies.

5.Can i use all the paid apps in nexus 7? the ones i had purchased for my phone?

6. does whatsapp support android tablets? afaik iOS variant doesn't support ipod touch and ipads.

1. No detachable battery. But it has more than 4000mAh

2. No micro SD card support. But after rooting I can use pen drives with N7, using an OTG cable. I can even play directly from Pen drives.

3. Storage is 16 GB in 16 GB model. But actual available space is 13.68 GB.

4. I think 16 GB can suffice. You can always keep other data in pen drives or USB hard drives, and keep on copying only what is needed.
Or, you can get yourself 32 GB model.

5. If you use the same Google account, then yes you can use the paid apps which you bought earlier.

6. There are guides on internet to activate whatsapp on tablet. THROW ALL OF THEM IN DUSTBIN. Although whatsapp shows a message that tablet isn't supported on tablets. But funny thing, it still works after that. I managed to activate whatsapp on my tab. And I could do that easily, without any wizard or tweaks. But, after that, whatsapp stopped working on my phone.
It turns out, whatsapp can't run on two devices, with same number. :p

I am going to post about how to work pen drives and USB dongle and whatsapp on that thread. So keep checking.
