Meet eXeem BETA v0.16 from the folks of SuprNova.org

*img6.exs.cx/img6/6641/exeembeta3zq.gif

eXeem is a new file-sharing application being developed by the folks at SuprNova.org. eXeem is a decentralized BitTorrent network that basically makes everyone a Tracker.

Individuals will share Torrents, and seed shared files to the network. At this time, details and the full potential of this project are being kept very quiet. However it appears this P2P application will completely replace SuprNova.org; no more web mirrors, no more bottle necks and no more slow downs.

BITTORRENT+KAZAA=EXEEM

The designers of the popular BitTorrent site Suprnova.org are reportedly working on decentralizing the BitTorrent client, according to Slyck.com, a P2P website.

According to an individual who called himself a beta tester, the software called "Exeem" is in beta, with 5,000 users signed on to evaluate it.

BitTorrent has become a popular file-sharing application for the way that it tends to saturate a broadband connection, providing maximum bandwidth to those who download files. Each BitTorrent file requires a "tracker", which the clients check in with to fnd out who is sharing files. Pinging these "tracker" files has put enormous strain on Suprnova.org and similar sites, Slyck said. At press time, the SuprNova page was tracking 277,773 seeded torrents, 5,923,440 seeds and 6,436,144 downloaders, or 12,359,584 peers.

Kazaa, meanwhile, grew popular because of the ability to search the network, a component of other applications such as Gnutella and Shareaza. However, both have been targeted by the RIAA, MPAA, and other organizations interested in protectng content.

Like any P2P app, the technology can be used to share legitimate files, or those that have been copyrighted by content providers. Most of the files at Suprnova.org, for example, appear to link to copyrighted files.

Slyck.com's report does not indicate that users will be rendered anonymous; the current BitTorrent protocol allows users to view the IP addresses of other users on the network. Instead, the technology will decentralize the BitTorrent protocol, and allow it to be spread across the network, placingthe network loads on the users themselves.

The interface is minimal but clean and easy to use and the app only crashed when it was shutting down. It looks pretty good.

One interesting thing was the “comments option. Under the “new torrents tab each file has a comments field. You can read and post to each file like it had it’s own message board. Might be handy for rar passwords etc.

Another interesting feature under the “transfers tab. Once a file has downloaded, it sits in your transfers area and has the ‘seeding’ status (sharing). You can right-click it and get some other options like “Vote OK, “Vote Not OK, “Comments and “Copy eXeem Link.

The description view is nice. You can read whatever the publisher of the file has to say about it. Also, looks like the eXeem link option can be used to put links on websites like eDonkey style.

A couple of new things: Under the catagory search are found all the types such as applications, games, music etc and also “Adult. Talk about stress testing a system. its assumed suprnova didn’t have an Adult section because of how much bandwidth it would consume just from people viewing the list. Wonder how this system will hold up under the strain.

The Search is much improved. You can narrow searches by filesize and by language.
