First, the questionaire:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Medium gaming(games of the past 1 year or so), HD videos and little bit of video conversion

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 30-35k (the closer to 30, the better)

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 1TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: 1600x900, 20"

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7.5

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: Assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: In a couple of weeks

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Not really.

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: None

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Live in Manipal, Karnataka. If the price diff between here and b'lore is more than 2k, wouldn't mind going to bangalore.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: Want my system to work as long as possible. I don't think i'll buy another system for maybe 5 years.

I've this configuration in mind: Got the prices from deltapage

Phenom II X4-945 6200
M4A78LT-M LE 2725
2*2GB (2*1100) 2200
DVD-RW 950
1tb HDD 2750
Microsoft KB set 700
Dell IN2020M 6850
Sapphire Radeon 5750 6800

Got some doubts:

-Is Phenom II worth the extra money over Athlon II X4-635(rs. 4675)

-Suggest a good case and power supply.

-I looked at sandy bridge but mb+proc price diff is more than 7k.

Mostly fine with it, though a couple of questions.

a. Phenom II-935 vs Athlon X4-640 (is the extra money worth the extra performance)

b. GTS 450 vs Radeon 5750. (I'm a bit partial to radeon, but is gts 450 worth it, also seems some 1k more expensive)

Also, anyone from bangalore; are prices in bangalore as low as mumbai?

a. no. Athlon II X4 is slower but it lets you get a better graphics card which makes the system overall, much faster. or let you invest in a better PSU, so your system is safe.

b. GTS450 & HD5750 are almost same. get whichever you get the cheapest possible rate & save the rest.

Gts 450 is a bit powerful than radeon 5750. It performs between a 5750 and 5770. Since 5750 and gts 450 are similarly priced @ 6.8k, going for a gts 450 is a no-brainer.

@ Abhi_ka

Buddy go to s.p road and take quotes from a no. of shops before making a buying decision. I am sure you will get a better deal.
