sound recording problem

Hi, i am new here, i have a strange problem.....
i have a asus A7N266VN motherboard,( nvidia chipset), OS winxp,
problem is i cant record sound from music or movie playing in my PC, no software even windows default software is not working, i formatted many times, but no success,
i mainly want to record sounds from movie which is playing in PC.
anyone can help me about it???
