1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Games like Borderlands 2, Dishonored, Skyrim (with ENB mods), and various MMO's. Don't need to play at ultra high settings with all the bells and whistles , I'm satisfied with playing at settings somewhere between medium and high. I need a reliable rig that will stay cool even through daily 8+ hours of gaming at a stretch, in the summer.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25k, I can extend it to 30k.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 GB.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I have an old 20" monitor that I plan to use (sorry, but I don't know the resolution).

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Keyboard, mouse, speakers, DVD drive.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: By the end of November.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will be done by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Thane. I can buy it from Mumbai, and I'm OK with buying from Flipkart if they offer a better deal.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I've had a friend in Mumbai ask for prices of a few of the frequently suggested components on this forum, and have also been lurking on Flipkart.
These are some of the components I've shortlisted-
GPU - HD6770 or HD7550
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 4GBx1
Processor - Intel i3 2120 or AMD FX4100 3.6 Ghz
PSU - Corsair CX430V2
Mobo - Gigabyte-B75M-D3H

OK, I really liked the 7770, thanks for the suggestion. Would it make much of a difference if I got the FX4100 instead of the i3 3220? Just thinking of the price here, since the FX4100 is a bit cheaper.

Normally 20" displays come with 1600X900 resolution and at that resolution i3 3220 does have an upper edge over FX 4100, both in terms of Gaming performance and power consumption. The only advantage 4100 has is overclocking. But since you're not planning for it, i3 is the best solution. Mumbai prices are lower than the Flipkart prices and you might find the processor below 7K. Also the Motherboard price in Kolkata is 3.9K to 4K. In Smcinternational.in, the price of MSI HD 7770 is around 8.2K.

For prices in Mumbai, have a look at the Primeabgb site, primeabgb.com

No highs, No lows = Bose.
Maybe OP can save ~500 on RAM by getting Corsair DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) PC RAM (CMV4GX3M1A1333C9) | Ram | Flipkart.com
as theres no OCing in the picture and performance difference wouldn't be practically visible ....
