They will not run at 1080p. Will get scaled down for your monitor resolution. So you will get non-full HD.

Only a monitor which has supports Full HD i.e.1080p written on the box of the product or on the product or mentioned elsewhere will support resolutions upto 1920 x 1080.
In other words if you have a monitor with maximum resolution of 1600x900 then it is not capable of displaying full HD but it will downscale the videos to 1600x900 to run them..
